Job Summary, Duties & Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, performs routine support duties for recreational programs activities, and events.  The purpose of this position is to provide support to recreational programs and activities that meet the needs of a diverse community.  This is the entry-level classification responsible for providing operational support to an assigned program area. 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job duties and responsibilities as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the typical tasks performed.  Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform related duties as needed.

  • Assists in the implementation and monitoring of Town procedures with respect to participant safety
  • Provides excellent customer service and is knowledgeable about Town programs, rules, and procedures
  • Performs routine administrative duties such as phone and counter reception and registration processing
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work
  • Assists with Town with special events as needed
  • Attends in-service training as required by the Department
  • Performs related duties as assigned
Specific Program Functions:
In addition to the general duties and responsibilities outlined above, the following details specific responsibilities for program-specific roles:
Camp Counselor 
  • Ensures a non-competitive, positive, self-image enhancing environment for each participant through the direction of non-competitive, fun, varied and well-organized activities
  • Leads activities that provides the opportunity for involvement of all children on an equal level 
  • Prepares, in advance, directions for activities, daily schedules and required equipment used during the activities
  • Exhibits enthusiasm for the activity to impart a feeling of excitement to camp participants
  • Follows procedures for camper check-in/check-out 
  • Completes reports for accidents/incidents, behavioral modifications, and camp schedules
  • Promotes safety and proper storage of equipment, including inventory of supplies
  • Ensures safety of youth during transportation while on field trips
  • Provides and adheres to established guidelines set forth for the safety, behavior, communication, and discipline of the camp participants
  • Recognizes and rewards positive, improved, and outstanding behavior and/or accomplishments of camp participants
Pool Cashier
  • Accepts and records admission fees and concession fees accurately using a cash register or other means of revenue tracking 
  • Greets all customers either in person or via telephone in a timely and professional manner
  • Makes information on departmental programs available to customers upon request
  • Serves food for swimming pool patrons in accordance with the Town of Trophy Club and County Health codes
  • Assists with maintaining the Aquatic facility and surrounding area
  • Assists with pool party reservations as needed
  • Prepares bank deposits and departmental records and reports
  • Enforces pool entrance requirements
  • Keeps Pool Manager notified of any customer safety concerns
  • Performs safety procedures including the emergency action plan for the facility

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Minimum age requirement is 16 years old at time of hire
  • American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED is required at time of hire and maintained throughout employment
Knowledge of:
  • Recreation program services, operations, and activities
  • Relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Proper care and use of recreation equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Principles and practices for providing high level of customer service
  • Principles and practices of recordkeeping
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
  • Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work
Ability to: 
  • Lead and conduct assigned program classes or activities
  • Maintain the safety of program activities and participants
  • Maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner
  • Perform work as directed in an efficient, effective, safe, and timely manner
  • Make basic mathematic calculations with speed and accuracy; count money and make change
  • Respond appropriately to changing situations
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships
  • Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.

Work Environment

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels.  May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions.  Must possess mobility to perform medium physical work; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio.  The classification supports indoor and outdoor recreation programs requiring frequent walking, running, conducting exercises, and related physical activities.  Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, or tools and equipment used in assigned program area.  Program activities may require sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; the ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds or higher weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.  Incumbents may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
