Position Objective
To direct and perform work consisting of tasks of a varied nature necessary to the operation, facilities and services of the Society.
Principal Responsibilities
- Attend, clean, guard or patrol an assigned area or public building, property, structures and or gates in or adjoining the zoological park to keep order and cleanliness.
- Assist in allocation of work assignments.
- May inventory, order, pick-up and allocate supplies.
- Protect society property by properly securing and locking various buildings, stations or gates.
- Perform ground maintenance work including helping with landscaping, gardening, etc.
- Offer aid, help and directions and information to the public.
- Perform custodial duties where required.
- Assist in the cleaning of areas other than those assigned as conditions may require.
- Enforce the Society's visitor rules and regulations and those of the Department of Parks of the City of New York.
- Perform related tasks and duties as required.
Internal Qualification RequirementsJob Qualifications
•Hands-on experience in the use of cleaning equipment.
•Willingness to complete the required training to safely utilize tools and operate equipment in accordance with established procedures.
•Ability to represent WCS in a professional manner and to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with employees, colleagues, and zoo guests.
•High School diploma or equivalent. (preferred)
•Valid Driver's License (preferred)
•Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and special events such as the schedule demands.
Physical Requirements
The position requires work outdoors in all weather conditions and in office environments. Tasks require manual dexterity and ability to safely use tools (e.g. drill, wire cutters, computer keyboard) and operate equipment (e.g. vacuum cleaners, pressure washer, snow thrower, leaf blower and related janitorial equipment). Some tasks require climbing, kneeling, bending, navigating uneven terrain, and moderate lifting up to 50 pounds.
