To support this work, we are looking for a Social Media Manager to join our Communications team.

What You’ll Do
As a part of the team, you are responsible for content strategy, daily publishing, paid and organic performance optimization, event coverage, and cross-functional collaboration with internal departments and external stakeholders. Major responsibilities include:
Organic Social Strategy & Daily Execution
- Manage and execute daily publishing across platforms, including Facebook & Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging channels.
- Develop and maintain monthly content calendars aligned with organizational priorities, campaigns, and fundraising goals.
- Write compelling, platform-specific copy that reflects brand voice and mission.
- Partner with design and video teams to produce high-performing visual content
- Optimize content using best practices for reach, engagement, and algorithm performance.
Paid Social Media Management
- Support development and execution of paid social campaigns across relevant platforms
- Collaborate with internal teams and/or external agencies to develop targeting strategies, audience segmentation, and A/B testing plans.
- Monitor ad performance, budgets, and KPIs to ensure strong ROI and cost efficiency.
- Analyze paid campaign data and provide actionable recommendations for optimization.
- Align paid social efforts with fundraising, advocacy, and awareness objectives.
Event & Campaign Support
- Provide real-time social media coverage for events, announcements, and key organizational moments.
- Develop integrated social rollouts for major campaigns, including teaser, launch, and follow-up phases.
- Coordinate messaging across departments to ensure consistency and amplification.
Cross-Department & Agency Collaboration
- Partner with Development, Programs, Policy, Executive Leadership, and Communications teams to translate priorities into compelling social content
- Work closely with outside agencies, creative vendors, influencers, and paid media partners.
- Maintain brand consistency and messaging standards across all platforms.
Community Management
- Monitor comments, direct messages, and brand mentions daily.
- Engage with followers to foster a dynamic and mission-aligned online community.
- Escalate sensitive issues and manage reputation appropriately.
Analytics & Reporting
- Track and analyze performance metrics across organic and paid channels.
- Develop monthly performance reports with insights and strategic recommendations.
- Use data to refine content mix, posting cadence, audience targeting, and paid investments.
- Stay informed on emerging platform trends, tools, and algorithm updates.
What We’re Looking For

- 3–5 years of professional social media management experience
- Proven experience managing daily posting across multiple social platforms
- Hands-on experience with Meta Business Suite, Ads Manager, TikTok Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, and platform analytics
- Experience collaborating with multiple departments and external agencies
- Strong copywriting and storytelling skills
- Experience with social scheduling tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Later)
- Demonstrated ability to manage paid budgets and optimize campaigns
- Highly organized with strong project management skills
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical execution
- Experience in nonprofit, environmental, advocacy, or mission-driven organizations
- Basic video editing skills (CapCut, Adobe Premiere, Canva, etc.)
- Experience managing influencer partnerships or ambassador programs
- Familiarity with CRM integration and conversion tracking
- Reporting and Supervision
The Socia Media Manager reports to the Director of Digital Strategy & Brand. This position will work closely with multiple departments across the organization, including Operations and Programs. This position does not have any direct reports at this time.
Working Conditions
This is a remote position based in the United States. Occasional travel throughout the U.S. and to American Forests’ headquarters in Washington D.C.
This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods and to operate a computer and other office equipment. Compensation & Benefits:
This is a full-time, salaried exempt position. The budgeted salary range is between $75,000 and $95,000.
