    Job Description

    Our Mission in Action

Trees play a vital role in solving some of the most pressing issues facing our communities, our society, and our world today. For 150 years, American Forests has stood boldly at the forefront of the conservation movement, working collaboratively and innovatively to ensure that all people have access to the benefits of trees. As we look ahead to the next 150, continued collective action will be essential to securing a healthy, climate-resilient future for all. To support this work, we are looking for a Social Media Manager to join our Communications team.

    Who You Are:

The ideal candidate blends strong storytelling ability with analytical thinking and understands how organic and paid social strategies work together to drive awareness, engagement, and conversion. You are high-energy, enthusiastic, and visionary. You have good instincts and strategic awareness.

You think-outside-the-box and are willing to try new approaches and take risks – i.e., you know how to cut through the noise and grab people’s attention. You are efficient and effective, capable of meeting deadlines and navigating a dynamic, fast-moving workplace. You make sure the job gets done and done well.

You are excited about evangelizing on behalf of American Forests – bringing more visibility to our efforts to strengthen landscapes and communities.

    What You’ll Do

As a part of the team, you are responsible for content strategy, daily publishing, paid and organic performance optimization, event coverage, and cross-functional collaboration with internal departments and external stakeholders. Major responsibilities include:

Organic Social Strategy & Daily Execution

    • Manage and execute daily publishing across platforms, including Facebook & Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging channels.
    • Develop and maintain monthly content calendars aligned with organizational priorities, campaigns, and fundraising goals.
    • Write compelling, platform-specific copy that reflects brand voice and mission.
    • Partner with design and video teams to produce high-performing visual content
    • Optimize content using best practices for reach, engagement, and algorithm performance.

    Paid Social Media Management

    • Support development and execution of paid social campaigns across relevant platforms
    • Collaborate with internal teams and/or external agencies to develop targeting strategies, audience segmentation, and A/B testing plans.
    • Monitor ad performance, budgets, and KPIs to ensure strong ROI and cost efficiency.
    • Analyze paid campaign data and provide actionable recommendations for optimization.
    • Align paid social efforts with fundraising, advocacy, and awareness objectives.

    Event & Campaign Support

    • Provide real-time social media coverage for events, announcements, and key organizational moments.
    • Develop integrated social rollouts for major campaigns, including teaser, launch, and follow-up phases.
    • Coordinate messaging across departments to ensure consistency and amplification.

    Cross-Department & Agency Collaboration

    • Partner with Development, Programs, Policy, Executive Leadership, and Communications teams to translate priorities into compelling social content
    • Work closely with outside agencies, creative vendors, influencers, and paid media partners.
    • Maintain brand consistency and messaging standards across all platforms.

    Community Management

    • Monitor comments, direct messages, and brand mentions daily.
    • Engage with followers to foster a dynamic and mission-aligned online community.
    • Escalate sensitive issues and manage reputation appropriately.

    Analytics & Reporting

    • Track and analyze performance metrics across organic and paid channels.
    • Develop monthly performance reports with insights and strategic recommendations.
    • Use data to refine content mix, posting cadence, audience targeting, and paid investments.
    • Stay informed on emerging platform trends, tools, and algorithm updates.

    What We’re Looking For

We don’t expect you to check every single box. If this role excites you, we want to hear from you! We’re interested in your ability to learn, collaborate, and bring fresh perspectives.
