Job DetailsJob Location: Autry Museum of the American West - Los Angeles, CA 90027Position Type: Temporary - Full TimeSalary Range: $18.50 - $18.50 HourlyPOSITION SUMMARY The Getty Marrow Conservation Intern will support preservation efforts at the Autry Museum of the American West. This internship will introduce topics such as conservation ethics in the stewardship of an indigenous collection, artifact handling, documentation, and basic

in object, textile, and preventive conservation. There will be opportunities to network with colleagues from a variety of specialties during visits to conservation labs in the local area. The internship is full-time (40 hours/week) for 10 consecutive weeks during the months of June to August. Intern hours will be Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.
Students pursuing degrees in conservation, anthropology, archaeology, art history, studio art, science, or other related fields are encouraged to apply. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Learn basic conservation
skills:
commonly used in object and textile conservation Prepare documentation of artifacts including photography, graphic documentation, and written reports Complete maintenance of collection items on display in the museum and outdoor sculpture garden Assist conservators with checking pest traps, archiving environmental data files, and entering data into a spreadsheet Organize and update inventories of lab supplies and materials MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS:
While these internships are intended for students from backgrounds underrepresented in museums and visual arts professions, eligible candidates from all backgrounds may be considered. Candidates are sought from all areas of undergraduate study at any higher
education:
institution—community college, trade school, and public and private university—and are not required to have demonstrated a previous commitment to the visual arts. Candidates shall have the

s. In addition, applicants must: You must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in either a bachelor’s degree program or an associate’s degree program. Students must have completed at least one semester or two-quarters of college by June. Students who graduated the semester or a quarter immediately before the internship begins are also eligible.
(Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.) Attend college in or be a permanent resident of LA County; and Be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis; also known as a "green card" holder).
Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid throughout the internship period are also eligible. Please note that students who have previously served as Getty Marrow Undergraduate interns at the Autry Museum are not eligible for consideration. Finally, staff members and relatives of staff or board members are not eligible.

WORKING CONDITIONS Requires use of computer, microscope, digital camera, power and hand tools.
Must have physical mobility and stamina to complete tasks that involve long periods of intense concentration while standing, walking, or sitting; frequent stooping and bending; climbing ladders up to 12 feet high; occasional work outdoors. On occasion, this position requires lifting items weighing up to 35 pounds and walking up to 10 feet before placing it down.
Travel between the two main campuses will be occasionally necessary. The campuses are less than 3 miles apart.
