    CAMP COUNSELOR:

    Openings at Roberts Academy and Oyler School

    ABOUT THE ROLE:

    The Camp I Can Counselor guides and supervises a group of campers throughout a 4‑week summer day camp program. This position blends traditional camp experiences—such as swimming, recreation, and field trips—with hands‑on learning activities that support healthy child development. Counselors create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where campers feel supported and excited to learn.

    This role models professionalism, collaboration, and a strong commitment to camper well‑being and program excellence.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.
    • Interest or experience working with children preferred.
    • Valid driver’s license preferred.
    • Basic technical skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    - ADMINISTRATION:

    • Maintains daily schedules and accurate attendance records.
    • Writes anecdotal notes to track child progress.
    • Completes incident reports and all required documentation on time.
    • Adjusts and documents modifications to lesson plans as needed.
    • Ensures proper care and appropriate use of program materials and supplies.

    - INTERNAL & EXTERNAL COLLABORATION:

    • Communicates child or program concerns promptly to supervisor.
    • Engages with parents daily, fostering positive and collaborative relationships.
    • Communicates openly with all team members.
    • Represents the agency professionally within the community.

    - DIRECT CLIENT SERVICE:

    • Actively participates in daily activities with children.
    • Ensures supervision and maintains required staff‑to‑child ratios at all times.

    * Implements developmentally appropriate lesson plans that support individual and group needs, including:

    • Academic bridging through peer and project‑based learning.
    • A balance of child‑initiated and counselor‑initiated activities.
    • Monitors children during field trips and recreational activities.

    * Develops trusting relationships and supports children’s social‑emotional needs by:

    • Modeling appropriate behavior.
    • Guiding interactions and helping children process emotions.
    • Facilitating problem‑solving and reinforcing positive social skills.
    • Implementing trauma‑informed practices.
    • Builds positive, productive relationships with families.

    - QUALITY ASSURANCE & EFFECTIVENESS:

    • Follows licensing, accreditation, and Step Up To Quality standards.
    • Adheres to daily schedules and maintains consistent expectations.
    • Attends team meetings, agency events, and required trainings (e.g., CPR, Child Abuse).
    • Supports completion of child and parent surveys.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Work Environment: Exposed to a combination of office, school and mental health treatment environments.  Exposed to children with behavior problems.  May be exposed to shouting and clients who may be verbally and physically aggressive.  May be exposed to blood or vomit and bodily fluids.

    Physical demands: The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend and lift up to 50 pounds.  Must be   capable of sustained exertion and be able to participate in the physical restraint techniques and exercises required to ensure safety of clients at all times.
