    Job DetailsJob Location: Cannon School - Concord, NC 28027Camp Counselors are responsible for supervising campers throughout the camp day and ensuring seamless transitions between arrival, camp sessions, lunch, extended day, and dismissal. Counselors serve as frontline leaders in camper safety, attendance accountability, parent communication, and staff oversight.

    They are expected to exercise sound judgment, maintain consistent headcounts, and proactively support camp providers and leadership. This is a high-visibility, high-accountability role requiring strong organization, initiative, and professionalism. The Counselor position will receive guidance from the assigned Camp Provider and their assigned Unit Coordinator, and will report directly to the Assistant Camp Director/Camp Director.

    Counselors must be available to work at minimum 4 weeks of Camp Cannon and attend mandatory training (June 1-4) prior to the beginning of Camp.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist Camp Providers with instructional support, logistics, and activity supervision.

    Safely escort campers between arrival areas, camp locations, activities, lunch, and dismissal areas while conducting headcounts and maintaining full accountability for camper movement at all times. Supervise campers during snack time, lunch, bathroom breaks, and extended day programming.

    • Facilitate morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up procedures and provide supervision in the gym or designated arrival and departure areas, ensuring campers are only released to authorized adults/guardians.
    • Help create a welcoming and energetic environment for campers, including assisting with morning skits and transitions.
    • Maintain accurate daily attendance records and ensure proper camper sign-in and sign-out.
    • Ensure campers are directed to the correct locations for carline, lunch, and extended day programs and arrive with their belongings.
    • Communicate health concerns or safety issues to instructors, Unit Coordinators, Camp Leadership, families, and nursing staff when appropriate.
    • Assist with camper behavior management and redirection when necessary.

    Remain on duty until all assigned campers are safely dismissed or until released by Camp Leadership.

    • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians/camp staff/camp providers/campers.
    • Maintain accurate documentation and camp records in accordance with Camp Cannon policies.
    • Ensure camp facilities and shared spaces are left organized and clean at the end of each session.
    • Identify, respond to, and report environmental or safety hazards to the Leadership Team immediately.
    • Help mentor Counselors in Training (CITs) in partnership with Camp Leadership.
    • Monitor program quality and safety standards and report concerns to Unit Coordinator or Camp Leadership.

    Serve as a professional ambassador and role model for Camp Cannon and Cannon School. Ability to work an 8 or 9 hour (with a break) shift

    Qualifications:

    Camp Counselor I: Rising high school Junior or Senior Camp Counselor II: High School Diploma/GED required Camp Counselor III: College Degree/Trade School Certificate/DD-214 required or 3+ years of professional

    experience:

    Requirements:

    Ability to stand, walk, and supervise outdoors and indoors for extended periods. Ability to assist with setup, transitions, and equipment movement as needed. Availability for the full camp day, including extended day coverage as assigned. Ability to get to and from work each day reliably.
