    Position: Recreation Specialist Pgrm (Outdoor Activities)     Salary: $25.00/hour +DOE*

    DUTIES:

    • Plans, develops, coordinates, and conducts a variety of classes and trips in support of a diverse Outdoor Recreation Program (ODR). Within overall plans developed by higher levels, selects activities and services to be offered in addition to required basic programs. Schedules, publicizes, and promotes various classes, trips, and other activities specifically targeting high-risk adventure programs. Ensures compliance with state and local agencies and their regulatory requirements. Analyzes all related costs and calculates prices based on these. Accounts for all funds involved in the program and makes recommendations. Assists with the budget for fiscal year program requirements. Develops and implements procedures to monitor, track and document program effectiveness and success. Reports progress and make recommendations on program planning, coordination and follow-up procedures to the Chief, Outdoor Recreation. Utilizes various software programs in researching, networking, exchanging information and establishing historical files. Resolve customer issues and complaints. Monitors and tracks complaints to evaluate and then ensure quality service and client satisfaction. Assists the Chief, Outdoor Recreation in planning, developing, and conducting an outdoor recreation training program, as well as a risk management plan. Monitors the condition and inventory of equipment, supplies, and facilities used to support the program. Requisitions of new equipment and supplies. Performs preventative maintenance on OAP equipment and assists in repairing and maintaining all recreation equipment assigned to Outdoor Recreation. Assists the Chief, Outdoor Recreation in managing all facilities associated with the program; marketing, online reservation platform, check in/out for rentals, inspections of facilities, maintenance of grounds and roads as needed (snow removal, gravel movement, etc), and other tasks as assigned by supervisor. Assigns, directs, and reviews the work of assigned employees and volunteers. Recruits, organizes and trains part-time contracted guides, volunteer leaders, and program coordinators. Assigns work, explains work requirements, methods and procedures to ensure proper accomplishment of assigned activities. Evaluates work performances of OAP volunteers and contracted guides. Assists the Chief, Outdoor Recreation in providing transportation/vehicle support to the Outdoor Recreation Program. Plans and schedules assigned vehicles to support the needs of the Outdoor Recreation Program. Requests and coordinates vehicle requirements from transportation or other sources when assigned vehicles are unable to meet program needs. Assists the Chief, Outdoor Recreation in implementing an overall program on safety, maintenance, vehicle operations, and inspections or assigned non-appropriated fund vehicles. Assists the Boat House manager in operations as needed, to include front desk support, trailering operations, preventative maintenance on gear, inspections, shift lead for opening or closing of facility. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    Qualification Requirements:

    Minimum:

    • Must have extensive knowledge of the concepts, principles, and techniques of a broad range of outdoor recreation programs. Documented experience in the outdoor recreation field with appropriate certifications, e.g., Wilderness First Aid, Kayak Instructor, Swift Water Rescue, etc.
    • Strong organization, planning & communication skills. Skilled in Microsoft and Adobe suites.
    • Must be capable of lifting 40+ pounds over long distances.
    • Pre-employment physical required
    • CPR/First Aid certification w/ AED required or must be capable of obtaining within 6 months of hire.
    • Must have valid driver’s license and provide annual copy of DMV driving record.
    • Must be capable of obtaining a CG trailering certification within 6 months of hire.
    • Drug tested position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
    • Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with

    Inquiries (NACI).

    Preferred:

    • ORD 1 and ORD 2 certifications from US Air Force
    • Certifications in rock climbing, swift water rescue, lifeguard, mountain biking, wilderness first aid, EMT.
    • In depth knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, e.g., boaters’ safety, camping safety, etc.
