Position Summary Colorado Outward Bound School seeks to hire a well-organized and detail-oriented individual with strong communication skills! The On-Call Coordinator for the Rocky Mountain Program (RMP) will support field programs by managing non-urgent field communications through the on-call system. The On-Call Coordinator will gather critical student and logistical information, coach and mentor staff, and ensure that concise and accurate information is shared in a timely and professional manner. While on duty, this position will also hold the RMP Parent Phone and provide high level customer service and support to families/caregivers. They will ensure every call received from the field and/or parents is recorded in our on-call chain and any details requiring follow-up and action are taken with appropriate urgency. The RMP On-Call Coordinator will report to the RMP APD of Safety & Partnerships, working closely with Program Managers and Course Directors.
At COBS, we facilitate a variety of programming that ranges from 1-72 days and are facilitated in backcountry and frontcountry environments. This role allows for different pathways into future roles and increases access to working for COBS. While backcountry and technical experience are key components to supporting and mentoring staff through this position, we may be able to provide training and/or make some accommodations based on your skill set.
Requirements:
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Receive and address calls from the field with issues concerning medical, injury, motivational, behavioral, itinerary changes, weather conditions, logistical needs, etc.
- Provide clear, effective and timely communication with instructors, course directors, supervisors, student services, and other applicable parties.
Direct support of field staff through coaching and mentoring of in-field issues.
- Supports overall course planning by facilitating potential itinerary changes, understanding their impacts to permits, updating key documents and communication chains, overlapping itineraries, etc.
Work closely with the RMP Logistics Department to prioritize, communicate and respond to logistical requests or needs.
- Gather and record detailed and pertinent information in a timely fashion.
Arrange and coordinate call-back times as appropriate to the nature of the call. Serve as a communication conduit between field staff, program leadership, families, and scholarship sponsors. Arrange physician visits for students.
- Ensure appropriate and accurate documentation is completed and uploaded to the appropriate on-call channel, i.e. SOAP notes, early departure eval, health care provider form, etc.
- Provide consistent and professional communication with students’ families during course.
- Assist Course Supervisors with Incident Report data entry.
- Advise and assist in student care during non-emergent evacuation and early departure scenarios.
Become familiar with and be able to reference COBS’ Staff Manual, Field Policies and Procedures, CAMPS and CAGS.
- Follow and uphold all Colorado Outward Bound School policies and procedures (local and national).
Additional program administrative tasks and support as requested.
Education and Work Experience:
Preferred minimum of two years instructing and field leadership experience with wilderness expeditionary organization. Familiarity and experience working with youth and managing sensitive motivational and behavioral dynamics. Minimum Wilderness First Responder certification. Youth Mental Health First Aid training
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Based in Leadville at basecamp. Work at computer up to 95% of time. Ability to bend, lift, kneel, crawl and carry up to 40lbs.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Training rate of $80/day for five days of Onboarding & Training, starting 5/29
