POSITION SUMMARY:
Summer Camp Coaches will be responsible for coaching at Detroit Lions Summer Youth Football Camps throughout the state of Michigan. Some seasonal coaches may also be involved in additional specialty football camps and clinics or Detroit Lions game day duties. The hours for this position vary depending on the scheduled camp(s). This is a part-time seasonal position. 25+ camps will be conducted from June 6-August 6, 2026. During most football camps, Summer Camp Coaches will be required to work outdoors.
Interested candidates will need to provide their availability for the camp schedule below. Hired candidates are able to select the camp locations of interest to them and are ultimately assigned based on staffing need. We ask candidates consider working a MINIMUM of 5 camps during the 2026 Summer Football Camp Tour but are able to work many more.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to):
The Summer Camp Coach position will have daily responsibilities including, without limitation, the following:
- Assist the Summer Camp Head Coach while coaching football fundamentals at summer camps
- Plan and design coaching techniques for specific position groups
- Conduct own drill work with varying age groups ranging from ages 4-17
- Monitor the day-to-day operations of the field while ensuring requisite supplies are available during practices and games
Involvement of the daily on-site camp registration process, including but not limited to, check-in, waiver collection, t-shirt and name tag distribution
- Enforce safety rules; notifying proper personnel when field maintenance is required, and/or recognize any hazardous situations that would be reported to the Camp Head Coach
- Assist with other duties as assigned
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Strong oral and written communications skills. This includes the ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, listen and get clarification, as well as the ability to write clearly and informatively The ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and develop solutions quickly and effectively
Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities in a professional manner Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment in regard to working with children and in all Football Education programs and football outreach initiatives Ability to work with a flexible schedule in order to be available for scheduled events, including nights, weekends and holidays
Will accept other responsibilities and duties required by the supervisor consistent with the objectives and essential functions of this position. Such responsibilities shall be incorporated into the position description if they are ongoing.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Must have own transportation to/from football camps and have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record High school or collegiate football coaching experience required Must have strong desire and ability to work with and develop children ages 4-17 Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Must have a positive attitude and a professional demeanor Must have clear understanding, knowledge and passion for football with the ability to coach at least one position on both offense and defense Must have completed online training course to comply with Michigan Sports Concussion law (proof of completion required)
Must complete USA Football’s Youth Tackle Coach Certification module Football camp coaching experience preferred Teachers certification preferred CPR/AED certification preferred Will adjust schedule as needed to meet work goals and time constraints. May require work out of both the Ford Field and the Allen Park Training Facility
