Job Title: Camp Wakonda Lead Counselor Pay Grade: 4 FLSA Status: Full-time-Non-Exempt-Seasonal Pay Range: $13.34-$16.67-$20.01

POSITION SUMMARY:
- Supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Builds members and the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact.
This position provides direct supervision to a group of children and leadership/supervision to assistant staff in a seasonal day camp setting. Provides positive engagement with youth in a safe, nurturing environment with diversity, equity, and inclusion lens. Provides quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests. While exemplifying Y’s commitment to the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and responding to all member and community inquiries promptly.
- Leads the preplanned activities with enthusiasm as directed by the supervisor.
- Provide direct supervision and instruction to camp participants following the camp guidelines.
Cultivates strong working relationships with YMCA members, staff, participants, and families. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary and gives them to the Camp Director promptly. Will report problems, complaints, or concerns of participants to the Camp Director in a prompt fashion. Actively participates in staff meetings, training, events, reviews, and other scheduled events.
Actively participate in all camp activities including swimming, field games, dress up days, and celebrations.
- Maintains attendance records of campers in an orderly and efficient manner.
Upholds all YMCA policies, procedures, standards, and code of conduct. Follow all YMCA emergency and safety procedures. Project a positive, enthusiastic, professional, and respectful relationship with all coworkers, parents, participants, guests, and volunteers. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Active and informative communication with parents, coworkers, and Director in a timely manner. Be self-motivated and can work independently or as a team member. You must be punctual and dependable. Fulfills any other functions appointed by the YMCA administration.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 18 years of age Must pass a background check and finger printing.
Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living/education, music (instrumental or songs, dramatic arts, aquatics, sports/PE/recreational games, creative arts, etc.), is preferred.:
CPR/First Aid/AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training completed prior to camp start date. Completed health form prior to start date. 1-3 years' Experience leading an activity in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living/education, music (instrumental or songs), dramatic arts, aquatics, sports/PE/recreational games, creative arts, and others.
1-3 years' experience working with children with cognitive and developmental disabilities is preferred. Behavior management experience within a School, Childcare, Camp setting or parenthood is preferred. 2-5 years Previous experience working with youth preferably in a day camp setting is preferred. Working towards or having a Degree in Education, Recreation, Psychology, Social Work or other related fields is preferred.
