We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Aerial Crew Lead to join our growing telecommunications company that is redefining the data network industry.
This position is located in the Tri-Cities of Washington and will be working in the surrounding areas. This is a full-time, non-exempt hourly position, eligible for overtime and paid bi-weekly. Job Purpose: The Lightspeed Networks Crew Lead installs and repairs fiber optic telecommunications systems and equipment.
The Crew Lead work under the supervision of the Superintendent and installs and maintains Lightspeed Networks’ physical network, including plant ancillary equipment, fiber, copper and power cable, and low power voltage systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, bend, assemble and erect all components necessary for lifting, moving and installing plant materials in accordance with the applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.
- Build aerial plant to customer specifications to include: framing poles, placing new strand, lashing new cable to bare strand, over lashing cable to existing strand and cable.
- Installing anchors and down guys, snow shoes, placing FST fiber terminals, grounding & bonding of strand, placement of riser guards, trimming trees, pulling of cable/fiber short distances in conduit, installing pole mounted cabinets, placing ground rods and installing VGR’s on poles, swapping lashers on poles either from a bucket truck or from hooks/ladders.
Dismantles, moves, and removes aerial, underground or building wire, cable associated equipment and hardware. Connects wires and cables to terminals and attaches/detaches various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, building, or poles.
- Lead, complete, and sign off on daily pre-job safety planning in the appropriate format.
- Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or mitigate hazards.
Assure all crew members understand, participate, and sign all pre-job safety planning tools at start and end of shift.
- Reports all accidents, hazards and near misses to Superintendent or Foreman.
Repairs and maintains major cable/fiber system and structures such as broken lashing, replacing or re-sagging aerial strand, pole transfers, down-guys, aerial to underground conversion, make ready, VGR’s and all grounding and bonding functions as per NESC, & NEC code.
- Deploying and removing various traffic control devices that protect the work area while on a street or roadway.
Supervise ground hands to ensure safety and productivity Complete weekly time sheets and production reports. Complete reports related to project status, progress, or other work details, using computer software.
- Participate, adhere to and support all safety related policies, processes and programs.
Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e., back-up alarms, smell of smoke or fumes, different colored warning tag, warning sirens. Inspect crew members’ work for compliance with the contract plans, specifications, and industry standards. Point out deficiencies, explain them, and take corrective action needed.
Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed reporting any issues to your supervision. Operates power equipment such as compressors, pumps, blowers, hydraulic diggers, and hydraulic aerial bucket trucks Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing principal duties and accountabilities.
This may require working in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and
skills:
as requested by project supervisor. On call rotation responding and restoring services for emergency calls, responsible for being on the job at short notice to repair damaged cables until service is restored.

experience:
working as a lineman, or similar craft as a helper or laborer, and a basic knowledge of telecom OSP craft.

and Abilities: Must possess CDL or obtain CDL within 6 months of hire. Proficient with construction equipment, hand tools, fusion splicer, OTDR, fiber identifiers and scope Ability to lift and move up to 75 pounds. Must be able to work independently without supervision Valid driver's license, auto insurance, with a satisfactory driving record Working Conditions and Physical Demands: This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week.
This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The outside work environment will vary throughout the day, including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, and/or rural settings.
This position requires the ability to perform

from high places, such as poles and roofs. Occasional exposure to natural gas and risk of electrical shock may occur. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels is also expected. Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-75 pounds).
Intermittent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects (100+ pounds) and getting in and out of a truck several times a day. Ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching and feeling, crouching, and crawling.
