OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT:
Marlborough is seeking dedicated Summer Camp Counselors to be the first point of contact for our families, and guide our campers through the Marlborough Summer experience. This part-time, non-exempt position reports directly to the Summer School Coordinator and is responsible for guiding our students through various summer school programs and offerings.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Working with Summer administrators, coordinators and faculty, our camp counselors help plan, lead and implement various programs for children.
- Supervise campers and ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Maintain a schedule for camp participants.
- Organize and lead various small and large group activities
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
- Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of campers at all times.
- Maintain constant surveillance of the pool/body of water areas.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Education and experience in another camp, youth program, recreation, working with children, or in a related field is a plus.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills by guiding, supporting, and modeling appropriate behavior for children and peers.
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, and colleagues using clear, respectful, and age-appropriate language.
- Exhibit patience and understanding when working with children of varying needs, abilities, and temperaments.
- Apply strong problem-solving skills to address challenges, resolve conflicts, and adapt to changing situations as they arise.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills to manage schedules, activities, and responsibilities efficiently.
- Use mediation skills to de-escalate conflicts and foster positive, respectful interactions among children.
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks that are outdoors.
- Lifeguard certification will be required, if applicable.
- Flexibility and willingness to explore new/different tasks as needed for the program.
COMPENSATION:
- As a non-exempt employee, the hourly rate ranges from $17.87 to $20.00.
