Summer School Camp Counselor

OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT:

Marlborough is seeking dedicated Summer Camp Counselors to be the first point of contact for our families, and guide our campers through the Marlborough Summer experience. This part-time, non-exempt position reports directly to the Summer School Coordinator and is responsible for guiding our students through various summer school programs and offerings.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Working with Summer administrators, coordinators and faculty, our camp counselors help plan, lead and implement various programs for children.

• Supervise campers and ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.

• Maintain a schedule for camp participants.

• Organize and lead various small and large group activities

• Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.

• Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.

• Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of campers at all times.

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool/body of water areas.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Education and experience in another camp, youth program, recreation, working with children, or in a related field is a plus.

• Demonstrate strong leadership skills by guiding, supporting, and modeling appropriate behavior for children and peers.

• Communicate effectively with children, parents, and colleagues using clear, respectful, and age-appropriate language.

• Exhibit patience and understanding when working with children of varying needs, abilities, and temperaments.

• Apply strong problem-solving skills to address challenges, resolve conflicts, and adapt to changing situations as they arise.

• Demonstrate strong organizational skills to manage schedules, activities, and responsibilities efficiently.

• Use mediation skills to de-escalate conflicts and foster positive, respectful interactions among children.

• Ability to perform a variety of tasks that are outdoors.

• Lifeguard certification will be required, if applicable.

• Flexibility and willingness to explore new/different tasks as needed for the program.

COMPENSATION:

• As a non-exempt employee, the hourly rate ranges from $17.87 to $20.00.
