Job Details Level: Entry Job Location: McDonogh School - Owings Mills, MD 21117 Position Type: Seasonal Salary Range: $1,500.00 - $4,000.00 Salary McDonogh Summer Camp takes place at the McDonogh School, a nondenominational, coeducational, college preparatory school located on 800 pastoral acres in suburban Owings Mills, MD. McDonogh Summer Camp serves over 2,500 campers each year through a wide variety of camp offerings (academic, arts, athletic). The Camp Counselor serves as an integral part of the McDonogh Summer Camp team, working closely with Head Counselors and Camp Directors to implement daily camp activities and assist in overseeing a specific group of campers. Applicants who have the availability to work multiple weeks will be prioritized.
Essential Functions Attend required staff trainings which are held both prior to and during summer camp Attend weekly staff meetings during summer camp
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner that represents McDonogh Summer Camp in a positive light and abide by the camp’s policies and rules as outlined in the Handbook
Attend camp every day for the duration of the summer program
- Assist with greeting and dismissing campers during morning and afternoon arrival/departure
Confirm daily camper attendance Interact with campers while participating in daily summer camp activities
- Provide support during camp transitions and supervise lunch
- Report any incidents or inappropriate behavior to the Head Counselor or Camp Director
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Prior experience working for a summer camp is desired Prior experience working with children is desired Additional Requirements Ability to collaborate with others Ability to follow written and verbal directions Ability to work in a diverse environment and inclusive culture that values and respects difference across race, ethnicity, religion, and orientation or identity
Excellent listening skills Must be able to comply with background check, including finger prints, as required by the agency and / or state regulations. Must have proven problem solving skills, be self motivated, and adaptable Positive mindset and patience Working Conditions Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical, but may be required on rare occasions. Lifting up to 25 pounds. Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to lifting, bending, standing, climbing, and/or walking. Sitting. Squatting. Standing. Stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling. Walking around campus. Working in humid conditions. Working in outside weather conditions.
