Job Details Job Location: McDonogh School - Owings Mills, MD 21117 Salary Range: $3,500.00 - $5,000.00 Salary McDonogh Summer Camp takes place at the McDonogh School, a nondenominational, coeducational, college preparatory school located on 800 pastoral acres in suburban Owings Mills, MD. McDonogh Summer Camp serves over 2,500 campers each year through a wide variety of camp offerings (academic, arts, athletic). The Head Counselor serves as an integral part of the McDonogh Summer Camp team, working closely with Camp Directors and the Director of Summer Camps to manage camp staff and camp activities.
Essential Functions Attend required staff trainings which are held both prior to and during summer camp Attend weekly staff meetings during summer camp
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner that represents McDonogh Summer Camp in a positive light and abide by the camp’s policies and rules as outlined in the Handbook
Attend camp each day that camp is in session
- Oversee counselor and camper attendance
- Oversee camper drop-off and pick up procedures
- Create a supportive and positive learning environment for all campers
- Manage all camp materials, equipment and facilities
- Provide support during camp transitions and supervise lunch
- Manage any camp incidents in collaboration with the Camp Director and Director of Summer Camp
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Prior experience working for a summer camp Prior experience working with children Prior teaching/instructional experience Additional Requirements Ability to collaborate with others Ability to follow written and verbal directions Ability to work in a diverse environment and inclusive culture that values and respects difference across race, ethnicity, religion, and orientation or identity.
Excellent listening skills High level of maturity, confidentiality, and assertiveness Must be able to comply with background checks, including fingerprints, as required by the agency and / or state regulations Must have proven problem solving skills, be self motivated, and adaptable Working Conditions
Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical, but may be required on rare occasions. Lifting up to 25 pounds. Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to lifting, bending, standing, climbing, and/or walking. Pulling. Pushing. Reaching, grasping. Sitting. Squatting. Standing. Stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling. Working in humid conditions. Working in outside weather conditions.
