Summer Camp Counselor Penobscot Bay YMCA | Seasonal (June–August 2026) Looking for the best summer job ever? No previous camp experience required — we provide training!
The Details
- $18/hour starting pay
- $19/hour with lifeguard certification (we can help you get certified!)
- June 15 – August 15
- Up to 40 hours per week
- Five required training evenings (5:00–9:00 PM, dates TBD)
- Daytime hours between 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM (rotating shifts)

Essential Responsibilities
- Supervise and actively engage a group of children throughout the camp day
- Plan and lead fun, age-appropriate activities that reflect YMCA values
- Maintain a safe, clean, and positive camp environment
- Attend required staff meetings and trainings
- Follow YMCA policies related to safety, medical needs, behavior guidance, child abuse prevention, and emergencies
- Communicate positively and professionally with parents, campers, and fellow staff
- Perform other duties as needed to support a successful camp season
Qualifications:
- Preferred experience working with children (camp, babysitting, sports, tutoring, etc.)
- Skills or interests in areas such as sports, outdoor recreation, arts & crafts, music, aquatics, or games are a plus
- Must be at least 16 years old (minimum age may vary based on state law and YMCA policies)
- CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire (training provided)
Physical Requirements
This is an active job! Counselors should be able to:
- Lead and participate in outdoor and indoor activities
- Stand, walk, and move for extended periods
- Participate in games, sports, and group activities
