    Location: Lake Forest, CA (onsite at company headquarters) Employment type: Full-time FLSA: Exempt Pay Range: $70,000.00 - $125,000.00/year Quantum Fuel Systems is engineering the future of alternative fuel solutions. For over 25 years, we've been at the forefront of clean energy innovation, designing, developing, and delivering industry-leading storage systems and transport trailers for compressed natural gas (CNG), renewable natural gas (RNG), and hydrogen.

    Based in Lake Forest, California, we're driving clean energy forward by helping our partners meet ambitious net-zero targets with safe, reliable, and sustainable solutions. Our product line includes next-generation fuel storage systems for commercial vehicles and virtual pipeline trailers that offer industry-leading capacity with advanced composite technology.

    JOB PURPOSE:

    The Senior Corporate Accountant plays a critical role in Quantum’s financial reporting, month-end close process, and financial planning activities. This position partners closely with senior leadership to deliver accurate financial reporting, actionable analysis, and insights that support operational, financial, and strategic decision-making. Reporting to the Controller, this role will serve as a key contributor in a private equity-owned, growth-stage manufacturing and engineering environment.

    SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

    Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines and manage multiple projects independently. Analytical and detail-oriented professional experienced in synthesizing complex financial data and delivering well-supported conclusions. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, financial modeling) with experience managing large datasets and financial databases.

    Effective communicator with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate cross-functionally and interface with senior management. Team-oriented self-starter capable of leading initiatives and performing under pressure.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead key components of the month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger review.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Statement of Cash Flows, and Equity).
    • Oversee full-cycle accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and policy compliance.
    • Perform bank reconciliations and prepare weekly cash and bank reports for the Board of Directors.
    • Maintain fixed asset schedules, including additions, disposals, and depreciation.
    • Manage financial reporting databases and perform sales, margin, cost, and profitability analysis using large datasets.
    • Support ERP system enhancements, process improvements, and dashboard reporting for executive leadership and the Board.
    • Coordinate audit, tax, and banking requests; assist with federal, state, and local tax filings, 1099s, and property tax reporting.

    Code purchases and ensure proper tax collection and compliance.

    • Lead special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as needed.

    WORK AUTHORIZATION:

    This position does not offer visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related quantitative field; CPA or MBA preferred. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in mid-to-large organizations as part of a collaborative finance team; solo practitioner experience does not qualify. Strong general ledger expertise required.

    Experience in manufacturing or engineering environments with solid knowledge of US GAAP and standard costing.:

    Proficiency with large ERP systems (JD Edwards EnterpriseOne preferred), including system implementations or upgrades. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required, including advanced Excel skills (beyond basic formulas) and working knowledge of Word and Teams for effective collaboration and communication.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Regular and punctual onsite attendance for all scheduled work hours is an essential function of this position. Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to ensure timely arrival for scheduled work hours and occasional off-site travel for business-related tasks.

    PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    This is primarily a sedentary office position. The employee regularly operates a computer, keyboard, mouse, and phone, and must be able to communicate verbally and in writing. The position requires close vision for extended periods of computer work. Employee may occasionally need to stand, walk, reach, and lift files or materials up to 15-20 pounds.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    Candidates may be asked to complete skills-based assessments as part of the interview process. Relevant work experience may also be substituted for education or certification, at the company’s discretion. Employment is contingent upon successful pre-hire completion of a background check and AB 2188 compliant drug testing.
