Location: Rosemont, IL
Salary: $103,000 - $115,500

Position Summary:
The Director of Packaging will provide strategic and creative leadership for the end-to-end packaging design and development process. This role is responsible for delivering innovative, high-quality, and sustainable packaging solutions that align with brand vision and business objectives. The Director will lead a team and collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including licensors, sales, merchandising, factories, and offshore manufacturing teams, to ensure seamless execution and optimal results
Essential Job Functions:
- Oversee end‑to‑end project management for multiple packaging initiatives, ensuring accurate and timely execution of concepts and updates while maintaining budget discipline, meeting established timelines, and providing clear, consistent progress communication to key stakeholders.
- Lead the full lifecycle of packaging concept development—guiding ideation, prototyping, testing, and execution—ensuring alignment with brand standards and customer needs while leveraging new trends, consumer insights, and market research to deliver strong shelf appeal, regulatory compliance, and relevance in an evolving marketplace.
- Drive packaging process optimization and cost‑savings initiatives by improving workflows, reducing waste, and identifying efficiency opportunities, while also overseeing strategic sourcing, negotiating favorable supplier contracts, and managing strong vendor partnerships to support operational and financial goals.
- Lead the development of point‑of‑sale CDUs, in‑store fixtures, and floor‑plan solutions, ensuring all designs reinforce brand aesthetics and values while delivering a cohesive, high‑quality customer experience across retail environments.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with licensors, sales, merchandising, factories, and offshore manufacturing teams to facilitate effective communication and project alignment.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of packaging designers and engineers, fostering a collaborative, innovative culture while actively supporting team members’ growth in technical skills, problem‑solving capabilities, and overall professional development.
- Sustainability Leadership: Champion sustainability initiatives, including material reduction, the adoption of eco-friendly packaging solutions, and the implementation of circular economy principles, aiming for measurable reductions in environmental impact.
Education/License Requirements:
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent degree/experience
Minimum Qualifications:
- Required: 5+ years of experience in packaging design, graphic design, or a related field.
- Experience in packaging design and development in fashion or consumer goods.
- Strong expertise in materials, production processes, and sustainability best practices.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, 3D modeling, and AI skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
- Domestic and international travel (10%-15%) is required; prior overseas travel experience is a plus.
