Summer Camp Counselor

BASIC PURPOSE:

The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for the safety, care, and well-being of the children during Summer Camp.  The Summer Camp Counselor will provide the children with a safe environment to develop social skills, decision-making, and

• leadership skills with the intention of building self-confidence.  The position

of Summer Camp Counselor will receive direction from the Summer Camp Leads and the Arts, Education & Camp Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide great customer service to the community ensuring that all

customers, clients, and members are given prompt and courteous service.

• Follow all Child Safety policies and procedures.
• Relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages.
• Awareness of children’s individual needs.
• Always use appropriate positive discipline and practice vigilant

supervision.

• Handle security and crisis situations calmly.
• Maintain knowledge of all current programming.
• Responsible for maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the work and

play areas.

• Adhere to The Salvation Army Kroc Center policies and procedures.
• Follow and comply with all safety rules and regulations.
• Ensure the facility remains secure and report any security concerns to a

supervisor.

• Lead structured activities that support character development.
• Responsible for adhering to a structured activity schedule.
• Complete required training.
• Maintain confidentiality.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED equivalency.
• Minimum of 6 months successful experience working with children preferred.
• Ability to empathize, communicate, and work with people from diverse

backgrounds.

• Thrive in a team environment with emphasis on partnership and collaboration.
• Demonstrate positive interactions with co-workers, clients, and members.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining poise and

professionalism.

• Assess challenging situations and respond appropriately.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a

DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Physical mobility in bending and lifting up to 30 lbs.
• Use of auditory and visual senses with children and staff.
• Ability to verbally communicate with children and staff.
• Capable of getting into the swimming pool with campers.
