$19.25/hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Camp Coordinator is a part-time employee who reports to the Program Manager. This coordinator will be responsible for supporting our Venture Outdoors’ camps. The employee will work closely with the Outdoor Educator field staff, equipping them with the tools, materials and training they need to safely and effectively run a high-quality day camp.
The position is primarily in the field during summer camp weeks (approximately 80%), though some remote and/or office work may be necessary. Core working hours are typically Monday – Friday between 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with occasional evening and weekend hours. Applications will be accepted until 8:00 AM on April 10, 2026. Interviews will be offered after this date. No calls or emails please.
Preferred start date is June 1, 2026.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Staff Support Work cooperatively with the Outdoor Educator field staff who will be leading camps
- Ensure that all supplies, materials and resources are available to staff when needed, including transporting materials when necessary
- Mentor and support the Outdoor Educator field staff
Host check-in meetings and camps trainings with the Outdoor Educators
- Lead and/or assist in the supervision of campers as needed
Curriculum
- Plan curriculum and help staff execute camp programs and activities, including hiking, biking, geocaching, fishing, kayaking, and environmental education
- Assist staff in adapting programs as needed to meet the needs of the campers
Safety Assume responsibility of camper care and safety by being available to assist in higher need situations
- Ensure and maintain safety of the group through direct supervision, colleague communication, administration of First Aid, incident reporting, practicing fire drills and evacuations, and more
Administrative
- Assist Program Manager with camp paperwork completion, including health history forms and registration information
- Maintain camper attendance and enrollment records
- Communicate with parents
- Oversee camper drop off and pick up
- Communicate with community partners (Allegheny County Parks staff, other camps happening in park while ours are, and other folks we share space with)
Other Relay any concerns of the staff, campers, and general public to direct supervisor Complete an end of summer report for the team
- Drive company vehicles
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
We recognize that not all parts of the outdoor industry fit exactly into the categories as outlined. Proven leadership and interpersonal skills
Experience working with youth, preferably in a camp setting:
Desire to lead, motivate, and manage groups of youth
- Demonstrated ability to manage logistics in an organized fashion
Comfort speaking in front of a group, setting group expectations, and managing behavior
- Demonstrated ability to create and execute lesson plans/curriculum
Experience or knowledge of outdoor recreation and environmental education:
Experience working with youth with special needs is a plus:
REQUIREMENTS:
At least 18 years of age A reliable form of transportation (car, bus, bike) to get you and the necessary equipment to the activity site PA Child Abuse Check, PA Criminal background check, and FBI fingerprinting (must acquire prior to employment) Note: a finding on the criminal background clearances is not an automatic disqualification, but rather a conversation starter
Mandated Reporter Training (can acquire upon hiring) Current CPR and First Aid certifications (can acquire upon hiring) Once hired, the Camp Coordinator will attend Venture Outdoors’ Outdoor Leadership Training and any activity-specific training, including biking, fishing, kayaking, and vehicle driving
