Job Purpose

The camp counselor is responsible for facilitating camp programming and engaging with camp participants in a safe and supportive environment during daily activities.

Job Summary (Essential Functions)

  • Assist in planning and implementing camp activities, primarily arts and crafts
  • Foster a positive, energetic atmosphere while assessing and responding to the needs of individual campers
  • Organize activities and maintain high energy levels throughout camp
  • Communicate daily with families to provide updates on their camper’s experience
  • Prioritize accident prevention and respond to injuries or emergencies in accordance with club policies
  • Be approachable and supportive to all campers, especially those needing extra encouragement
  • Build and maintain cooperative relationships with campers and staff.
  • Arrive on time for all shifts, meetings, and activities
  • Clean and properly store equipment at the end of each shift
  • Attend all staff training and meetings
  • Maintain professionalism and interact positively with members, campers, and staff
  • Greet each camper and parent with a warm welcome and learn campers' names promptly
  • Ensure cleanliness and proper usage of facilities and equipment

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Certifications/Licensure: American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification including First Aid, CPR, & AED required
  • Experience: Prior experience working with children in a group setting
  • Skills: Conflict management, effective communication, creativity, patience, time management

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Must be able to lift 50 lbs, as well as sit/stand for extended periods of time. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, etc. in varying settings (indoor, outdoor) with varying conditions and temperatures.Β 

Work Schedule and Hours

Tuesday - Thursday 2:45pm - 6:00pm, with some flexibility needed to ensure all essential functions are met.Β
