Join our team, working in our beautiful Aquatic Center - home to 3 pools (2 competitive and one family/therapy pool).  

The New Canaan YMCA is looking for Diving Instructors. Under the direction of the Associate Diving Director, you will assist in the organization, development, and management of the non-competitive age group diving team. First Aid, CPR, and U. S. Diving experience recommended. Ability to communicate effectively and

professionally with staff and members is important.

Qualifications

GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Associate Diving Director, assist in the organization, development, and management of the non-competitive age group diving team.  Communicate effectively with the YMCA staff and members.

KNOW-HOW

First Aid, CPR, and U. S. Diving experience preferred.  Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff and members is important.

 

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

  • 2-6 hours per week: coaching and program work.
  • Maintain CPR / First Aid
  • Assist coaches with non-competitive Dive program, with both dryland and water workouts.  Direct non-competitive groups in workouts based on coach-assigned curriculum 
  • Fill in with other dive groups as needed.
  • Serve as a representative of the Whirlwind Diving Team, including assisting with the promotion and marketing of the dive program, and as a role model to the dive team members.  Assist with recruitment of additional athletes at the Fairfield County Swim League, Westchester Championships and other opportunities to meet with potential dive team members.
  • Remain knowledgeable in all safety guidelines and supervise and safely coach participants during class within those guidelines. 
  • Report any accidents or incidents to supervisor and lifeguard on duty. Assist with completing incident reports as needed.
  • Check inventory before and after practices and report any safety concerns.
  • Help organize and execute “practice meets” for non-competitive divers, to take place during practice time
  • Assist in overall planning of workouts, training, and conditioning within the program.  Help coaches to evaluate program and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Be a role model and demonstrate the YMCA Four Core Values of Honesty, Responsibility, Respect, and Caring.
  • Perform other duties as designated by the supervisor.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to climb, balance, kneel, reach, stand, walk, lift, talk, hear, and sit.

The incumbent must also regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds while performing their job functions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close/far vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Acute hearing is essential to this position, as is ability to project voice loudly.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, this individual maybe occasionally exposed to a hot, wet and/or humid environment.  Noise volume may be loud at times.

In this position, this person will not be frequently required to work in outside weather conditions.

 EFFECT ON END RESULT

Assist in the organization, promotion, and development of an efficient and effective diving team program to encourage enjoyable youth participation and retention.

All participants will have fun and enjoy the sport of Diving.
