Position Summary:
The Environmental Director is responsible for the planning, development and delivery
of
the
Indian
General
Assistance
Grant
(IGAP)
and
Unmet needs grants, funded
by the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA)
and other
environmental
funding
sources
as
awarded.
Essential Functions:
· Oversees and manages overall budget and grants received, and oversees all programs and projects for the Environmental Department.
· Annually review ETEP (EPA Tribal Environmental Plan) with the Tribal Council. Follow plans. assess and document environmental conditions in the traditional use areas. Develop plans of protection strategies to protect them.
· Work closely with the State of Alaska, City and Borough of Yakutat, Federal Agencies such as US Forest Service, National Park Service, Environmental Protection Office, and others regarding Environmental issues with the Yakutat Forelands and surrounding area.
· Maintain administrative functions; continue with capacity building through maintaining government to government relationships with agencies, within the community of Yakutat and researching and pursuing available grant opportunities for the Tribe.
· Continue monitoring Solid Waste Management with the City of Yakutat.
· Continue capacity building with researching and applying regularly for new grants.
· Continue to investigate status of the Wetlands Protection and Preservation Plan and spearhead the process.
· Actively researching alternative energy sources with the involvement of stakeholders.
· Submit quarterly, yearly, reports as required by Granting Entities in a timely manner.
· Continued partnership with SEATOR to participate in SEATT (Southeast Alaska Toxins Testing).
· Cultivate respectful and culturally aware relationships with internal and external stakeholders; adapt communication styles as appropriate for global and multicultural audiences.
· Participating in and presenting in environmental youth programs within the community.
· Utilizing program data received to educate community stakeholders through partnerships, postal services, social media, and/or local gatherings.
· Develop and execute long-term strategic plans in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and goals.
· Travel to meetings and training as required.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, requiring use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. The employee must be able to read, write, speak and hear.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility:
Minimum Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Must be 18 years of age or older.
· Bachelor
of
Arts in
Natural
Resources,
Sciences
or
equivalent background
in
the environmental scientific field preferred but not required.
· Advanced
level
of
computer
skills
and
at
least
one year’s
experience
using
Microsoft Word, Excel,
Outlook,
Access and other database programs.
· Must be able to pass a National Criminal and State background check.
· Valid Alaska Driver’s License.
