About the role:
As the International Shipping & Logistics Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the smooth coordination and delivery of all equipment that supports our trips across Latin America, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa (LAAPA). You’ll oversee the movement of gear from multiple global hubs, managing every stage of the shipping process—from organizing warehouse inventory and building shipments to ensuring import/export compliance and tracking goods in transit. Working closely with Operations teams in the U.S., Canada, and Europe, as well as our Global Bike Shop, you’ll ensure every shipment is accurate, compliant, and arrives on time to support seamless guest experiences in the field.
What you'll be doing:
General Inventory Logistics:
- Organize equipment requests into shipment build lists for ordering and inventory allocation as requests come in year-round, for a Fall/Winter shipping timeline.
- Organize items in our warehouses for upcoming shipments against existing US-needed equipment, working with the US Operations Lead for warehouse organization.
- Manage HTS and Schedule B codes as it relates import/export compliance.
- Work with the bike shop in US and France, including Global Bike Shop Manager, to ensure proper allocation of bikes for each country, for each shipment.
Shipment Oversight:
- Build Pro Forma Commercial Invoices and SLI documents for each shipment, including associated MSDS, physical inspection docs, battery level compliance docs, photos of goods etc.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders and IOR/EOR to ensure goods compliance prior to shipping
- Keep outgoing shipments on a schedule and work with the US Operations Lead to allocate staff as needed for building physical shipments.
- Physically build out shipments to ensure timely shipment departure.
- Research and quote delivery timelines and competitive rates to the LAAPA Operations Manager for approval to ensure efficiency in goods movement.
Field Staff Contact & Support:
- Coordinate with international Operation Field Leads to ensure equipment needed for the upcoming season is documented properly.
- Ensure all parties are kept up to date on status of goods movement to regions.
- Communicate early and clearly with in-country consignees on type of goods, quantity, shipment type, and timeline.
- Work with Field Coordinators for end of season maintenance process and item requests for future seasons.
- Potential for travel to countries for shipping logistics or other Backroads HUBs may be a part of this role.
What you'll need to be successful:
- Experience with international goods shipment and Import/Export processes with unrelated parties
- Experience with goods classification and shipping or supply chain processes including item packaging
- Detail orientated with a passion for accuracy, exceptional organizational skills to keep clear track of materials and information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and complete numerous tasks under time constraints
- Ability to see big picture and think proactively and strategically
- Work independently and as part of a team
