Class/Group: Hourly/Non-Exempt, Group III or IV 

Reports to: Ski School Manager

Pay Range: $16.66-$22.00

Supervises: N/A

Status: Winter Seasonal, Full-Time or Part-Time

JUNIOR INSTRUCTOR JOB SUMMARY:

Promote and support the central mission of Mission Ridge by assisting certified instructors in delivering exceptional ski or snowboard instruction to children. Junior Instructors help create a safe, fun, and engaging learning environment while developing their own instructional skills. This entry-level position is ideal for motivated high school students who are passionate about snowsports and enjoy working with children in an outdoor winter environment.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS:

  • Assist in instruction: Support instructors during ski or snowboard lessons as scheduled by Ski School guidelines.
  • Deliver guest service: Provide a positive and welcoming experience for guests and represent the Mission Ridge Ski School with professionalism.
  • Attend training: Participate in both required and optional training sessions to improve teaching skills and personal growth.
  • Complete assignments: Take responsibility for designated tasks and follow through reliably.
  • Provide mountain information: Share basic knowledge of the mountain with guests.
  • Develop knowledge: Learn Ski School procedures, teaching methods, and snow sports products.
  • Report incidents: Communicate any incidents to supervisors and assist in completing required forms.
  • Foster cooperation: Work positively with other instructors and departments to maintain a supportive atmosphere.
  • Work outdoors: Operate in cold, snowy, and variable winter weather conditions.
  • Use physical effort: Assist with lifting equipment or students when needed, requiring moderate physical exertion.

 

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Communication and teamwork: Ability to work effectively with instructors, guests, and children in a team setting.
  • Guest service focus: Friendly, patient, and professional demeanor when interacting with students and families.
  • Ski or snowboard proficiency: Must be at least a Level 6 intermediate skier or snowboarder.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Applicants must be current high school students who are at least 15 years old by January 1, 2025, and in good academic standing. Completion of the Mission Ridge Ski School Cadet Program or an equivalent youth instructor program is required. Experience in early childhood education, preschool, or coaching children is preferred. Candidates must be able to ski or ride at an intermediate level or higher.
 

PHYSICAL DEMAND:

This position requires physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors for extended periods in snowy and cold weather. Responsibilities may include skiing or riding throughout the shift, assisting students with gear, and performing moderate lifting. Strong communication, attention to detail, and a positive attitude are essential for success.
 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Junior Instructors work in an alpine outdoor environment, often in challenging winter weather conditions. The role involves direct interaction with children, guests, and staff and requires maintaining a positive, team-oriented mindset. Support and supervision are provided by certified instructors and Ski School management. Seeing: REGULARLY

-Must be able to read departmental communications and monitor/maintain a safe learning environment.

Hearing: FREQUENTLY

-Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with co-workers and guests.

Standing/Walking: REGULARLY

-Consistent and constant standing and walking while in operation.

Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: REGULARLY

-The position requires the ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, kneel, stoop, and crouch for extended periods. 

Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: FREQUENTLY

-Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds

Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: OCCASIONALLY

-Must be able to write, type, and use phone system
