Visitors can find the unforgettable peace and repose of a deep mountain cove at Jones Gap State Park. Trails and 17,000 acres of pristine mountain woodlands join the park with Caesars Head in what is known as the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. The Jones Gap State Park trails allow hikers to traverse between the two parks, as well as connect to a portion of the Foothills Trail and Palmetto Trail South Carolina hikers know and love.
Job Purpose and Duties:
Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area (To include Caesars Head and Jones Gap State Parks). Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher-level employees.
1) Provides assistance to and works to maintain a safe environment for park visitors, to include enforcement of park rules, regulations and policies within established limits and in accordance with Division policy. 2) Performs routine maintenance and repair activities on buildings and grounds. 3) Assists with the administrative activities to include, but not limited to, receiving and documenting revenues, preparing reports and making payments in accordance with standard operating procedures. 4) Assists with the operational activities to include supervising specific areas such as retail sales, day use areas, camping, cabins and other overnight accommodations or special use facilities. 5) Provides a variety of office functions related to callers, correspondence, document file and retrieval system, etc. 6) Performs continuous public relations activities and assists with educational and recreational programming. 7) Practice and promote teamwork within the State Park Service, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Associate's degree in Park Management or related field with (1) year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements:
1)Β Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. 2) Knowledge of bookkeeping, merchandising and applicable sales principles and practices. Knowledge of applicable terminology and research practices. Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies and organizational functions. Skill in the operation of a motor vehicle. Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals. Ability to train other employees. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public. Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 3) Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License.
