The Opportunity 
As a key member of the Girl Experience and Camp Leadership Teams, the Outdoor Education & Engagement Coordinator, Camp Kaufmann, supports the mission based on defined objectives and key performance goals (KPIs) of Camp Kaufmann by designing, coordinating, and implementing engaging outdoor skill-building and environmental leadership programs for Girl Scouts. This role blends youth development, environmental education, and event coordination, creating impactful camp and community experiences that inspire confidence, curiosity, and connection to nature. 
 
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Camp Director, the Program Coordinator, Camp Kaufmann will: 
Program Development & Delivery
- Design, plan, and deliver innovative, inclusive programs for Girl Scouts, including day trips, overnight experiences, weekend troop camping, and summer sleepaway camp sessions.
- Support development and implementation of Environmental Leadership and Outdoor Skill-Building programming aligned with GSUSA curricula and outcomes.
- Lead and train counselor staff to lead outdoor classrooms and interpretive programs that highlight the natural and cultural features of Camp Kaufmann.
- Serve as a lead facilitator during camp events, ensuring engaging and educational experiences for participants that are aligned with intended outcomes. Event Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate all aspects of day and overnight events, including activity schedules, curricula, supplies, meals, and logistics.
- Develop event materials such as program booklets, certificates, name tags, gift bags, and themed giveaways.
- Manage communication and promotions through digital tools (e.g., BAND app, Instagram, etc.) as well as internal cross-department communications and collaborations with GSGNY Marketing and Communication team members.
- Oversee vendor coordination and partnerships to enhance camp programs.
- Work closely with Camp Business Administrators to track inventory, item ordering, and restocking of the camp store, Mama Ribbits Market.
- Partner with Operations, Property Team, and Camp Director to manage external rentals. 
Program Administration & Operations
- Maintain organized systems for participant communications and program records.
- Manage program inventory, ordering, and distribution of materials in preparation for all camp events.
- Track and maintain program budgets in line with approved line items.
- Support the Camp Director and Camp Registrar with CIT (Counselor-in-Training) and Outdoor Trainer programs, including virtual meetings and training weekends. Community Engagement & Customer Service
- Provide exceptional support and communication to troop leaders, caregivers, and volunteers before, during, and after events.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with Girl Scouts, volunteers, and staff, fostering an inclusive and empowering camp culture.
- Collaborate with departments such as Volunteer Experience & Support, Troop 6000, Finance, Advancement, and Customer Care to ensure smooth program operations and member satisfaction. Health, Safety, & Compliance
- Apply sound judgment and best practices in youth supervision, risk management, and emergency procedures as trained.
- Enforce and maintain Department of Health and American Camp Association standards and proper documentation. Seasonal & On-Site Commitment
- Work on-site approximately 2–3 weekends per month during the school year (72-hour weekends).
- Participate in and act as program badge content lead in a 5-week summer camp season with three-day and six-day sessions.
- Assist with program logistics as needed, including meal prep, set-up, clean-up, and activity facilitation.
- Serve as a key member of the camp leadership team during emergencies or critical events, taking an active role in implementing safety protocols as trained and directed by the Camp Director.
- Other duties, as deemed necessary. 
 
Location: This position will be based at Camp Kaufmann in Holmes, NY (Dutchess County) on a regular basis, mainly weekends and summers. It will also involve time in the Council headquarters in Manhattan for staff meetings and other business as necessary. 
 
Qualifications
- College degree or 2–5 years of experience in youth development, informal education, environmental science, or outdoor program coordination.
- Demonstrated experience in program design, event planning, and hands-on implementation for youth or community-based programs.
- Knowledge of environmental education, outdoor skills, and camp programming; enthusiasm for connecting young people to nature.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with youth, families, volunteers, and staff.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team to identify, analyze, and solve problems creatively.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in dynamic environments.
- Experience working with or supporting adult volunteers is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, social media platforms, and web-based applications for communication and event management.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as needed, including on-site program weekends and summer sessions; ability to travel to Camp Kaufmann regularly and occasionally throughout the five boroughs.

- Passionate about the work and impact potential of the Girl Scout movement on youth members.
- Valid US Driver’s license. 
 
Physical Demands
- Remain in a stationary position for several hours at a time.
- Ability to navigate the camp property (hilly terrain) in outdoor conditions will vary according to the weather.
- Ability to move up to 50 lbs. 
 
Compensation
- $45,000 - $53,000 annual salary.
- Room and board while at camp plus the cost of transportation from New York City to camp is also included.
