Part-time position, 2 days/10 hours each day

Work Schedule:  Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 12 midnight

 

Summary of Duties: Assist visitors to The Woodlands parks and recreation system by providing information, direction and support that will enrich their recreational experience and provide a pleasant, safe environment that promotes community harmony and the benefits of parks and recreation. Inspects parks, play equipment and pathways to evaluate physical conditions, promote park, recreation and safety programs, and ensure compliance of park rules by performing the following duties. Follows the guidelines of the Park Ranger program.

Essential Employee Responsibilities: During emergency conditions, subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support appropriate park activities and recreation through enforcement of parks rules and Township policies, procedures and covenants in a positive way.
  • Approachable and accessible to all visitors, encourages frequent, direct, positive, friendly and personal contact, and provides information that promotes the benefits of parks and recreation.
  • Perform duties in support of creating a pleasant, safe environment that promotes community harmony. Which include but are not limited to debris removal, general maintenance, park and playground inspections.
  • Ensures the safety of park users by enforcing rules and regulations, and performing detailed safety inspections of playgrounds
  • Inspects properties such as parks, pathways and recreational facilities to evaluate physical conditions, safety practices, and hazardous situations; anticipates and solves problems on a daily basis and submits work requests.
  • Confer with residents to induce compliance with covenants, safety standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Mandated to patrol The Woodlands Township’s 200 +/- miles of pathways.
  • Perform Township wide inspections related to parks, pathways, open space reserve, covenant compliance, property damage, and other properties as requested.
  • Perform minor repair work on play structures, swimming pools, irrigation systems, bridges, etc.
  • Performs clean-up at facilities.
  • Wears prescribed uniform.
  • Prepares various reports including vandalism, maintenance and park and pathway needs and keeps a daily log. Responsible for documenting all vandalism through incident reports and pictures.
  • Maintains golf cart and/or pickup truck.
  • Assist with developing programs for staff to educate the public.
  • May be required to work special events on nights, weekends or holidays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

Work Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibration, and electrical shock.   

Disagreeable: Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental condition and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk and occasional physical effort is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

Experience: One (1) year related experience. Successful completion of 80 hours of training prescribed by the Ranger Program required. 

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must possess a Texas driver’s license and meet the driver safety policy requirements.
  • Successful completion of 80 hours on-the-job (OTJ) training prescribed by the Ranger Program required (provided by the Township).

Computer Skills: MS Office computer skills are desirable.

Job Demands: Majority of the work performed by a Park Ranger is outside in all types of weather conditions.

Pre-employment Requirements: Pass pre-employment drug screening, pass background check, and eligible status on Motor Vehicle Report.
