POSITION SUMMARY
This position will be responsible for the strategy, development, support, and the day-to-day operations of payroll functions related to Global Payroll Services (GPS). This position will report directly to the Payroll Director. This position will work closely with Human Resources, Benefits, Compensation, HRIT and external service providers, to streamline and develop processes that ensure seamless and efficient payroll processes. This position will assist the Payroll Director in the development of goals and objectives for the department.
The ideal candidate will possess in-depth functional experience with taxes including multi-state and multi-local tax calculations, payroll processing, gross to net reconciliations, monthly, quarterly and annual payroll and tax reporting (W-2’s, 941’s T-4’s, etc).
This position is located in Denver, CO. A minimum of three days per week in-person at our office is required, with additional days determined by business and project demands.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
General Responsibilities:
Direct supervision of payroll staff, manage day-to-day activities to ensure payrolls are completed accurately and timely.
Become Subject Matter Expert on Workday Payroll and lead transition from current payroll systems to Workday.
Review or direct the review of data to ensure accurate payroll for new hires, terminations, salary increments, retroactive wages, transfers and leaves of absence.
Maintain earnings and tax withholding records, ensuring compliance with resident and work state regulations.
Develop and assign duties to subordinates to evaluate progress of work, resolve problems, and ensure that quality and quantity standards of work are met.
Research and resolve payroll issues and discrepancies pertaining to the costing of payroll.
Coordinate and maintain the escheatment process, working closely with the Tax department.
Monitor and track volume of work by resorts assigned to Specialists, ensuring KPI’s are met.
Develop department processing guides/Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and tracking, and ensure they remain current.
Mentor and directly supervise Payroll staff by applying knowledge of Payroll regulations, Time & Attendance and Payroll applications (UKG, Workday, and ADP).
Interpret and communicate policies, procedures, federal and state regulatory guidelines to payroll staff and others as needed.
Coordinate and monitor the company’s compliance about tax qualified benefit programs including Section 401(k) and Section 125 plans.
Manage all taxes including multi-state and multi-local tax calculations and processing, reconciliations, month, QTD and year-end reporting, W-2s, management and reconciliation of tax filings with outsourced provider.
Manage implementation of payroll processing for new companies in Workday and Kronos Time & Attendance.
Provide guidance to Payroll Tax Analyst as needed related to Payroll Tax and General Ledger requirements.
Distribute and provide W-2 service in a timely and accurate manner.
Delivery for Systems and Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities to enhance the service delivery process for efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of payroll operations.
Collaboration with business partners to include change management planning, ensuring a successful rollout of new systems and processes.
Support the design, implementation, and operational delivery of standardized payroll tools, enabling continuous improvement of the employee/customer experience.
Confirm best practices and lead process documentation initiative.
Team Leadership & Development:
Instill a culture of learning and growth, providing coaching and career development for all team members.
Provide and support strategic guidance with respect to department initiatives tied to company initiatives and objectives.
Establish and manage key metrics and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for leadership.
Controls and Compliance
Assist with the design and implementation of proper segregation of duties, controls, and internal self-audits. Ensure compliance with all corporate policies and procedures.
Collaborate with Internal Audit team and provide compliance reporting and process controls while ensuring no high-risk audit comments.
Assist with preparation of payroll-related documents, supporting financial reporting as required.
Assist with overseeing compliance and statutory reporting and filing requirements, including interpreting new legislation impacting payroll.
Assist in preparing relevant weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports. Ensure all payroll information and records are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
10 + years, Federal, multi-State, and local payroll tax experience
7+ years as a Payroll Manager in large, shared services department
Experience with weekly, bi-weekly, hourly, and salaried payrolls. Including garnishments, pay calculations, multi-state wage and hour regulations, and functional payroll processing.
Knowledge in medical, and retirement benefits to include taxation.
Experience with Union payrolls
Finance/Accounting knowledge or experience required. Ability to use query and report generation tools.
Workday experience preferred
Ulti-Pro/UKG, ADP, Kronos experience
Proficiency using MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
Canadian payroll processing experience a plus
Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Ability to work with the accounting and functional groups and senior management to collect, normalize and analyze data for financial & payroll reporting.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar field, or equivalent 7+ years’ experience
FPC or CPP certification preferred
The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of the Company’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives and many region-specific benefits.
Denver area base salary range: $100,000 - $140,000 per year
