Position Summary:
Ski Patrol members are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of guests on ski slopes. They provide emergency medical care, perform mountain rescues, enforce resort safety policies, and maintain safe skiing conditions by marking hazards and managing avalanche risks.
Essential Functions and Major Responsibilities:
Trained in avalanche awareness and control.
Responsible for the safety of all skiers/snowboarders and to maintain the safety of Schweitzer’s terrain.
Marks or removes hazards; posts signs for dangerous or closed areas and difficult terrain.
Reports areas that need grooming or repairs on ramps; will work with emergency, medical and first aid situations.
Will carry explosives for avalanche work.
Will be on call for lift failure or injury. Patrols areas on downhill skis.
Must be a strong team player able to work well with co-workers under all conditions.
Secondary Responsibilities:
Must have or be willing to obtain extensive knowledge of Schweitzer Mountain Resort facilities and activities.
Drive snowmobile.
Other duties as assigned.
Specific Job Skills:
License/Certifications- Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), CPR, Level I Avalanche
Technical- None
Physical Capabilities- Ability to ski at an Expert level in all weather conditions. Ability to lift over 50 lbs with or without help.
Additional- deep knowledge of Schweitzer terrain.
Education/Related Experience:
Minimum education - English reading, writing and communication skills. High school diploma or equivalent, first aid and avalanche training .
Minimum time in related position- At least 1 year medical response experience preferred.
Equipment and Safety/Protective Equipment Used:
Will need to wear appropriate PPE for operating snowmobiles in winter conditions as well as helmets while skiing on the clock.
