JOB SUMMARY:

The Ski Patrol Supervisor assists and works in conjunction with the Ski Patrol Manager and the Assistant Director of Mountain Operations in overseeing the seasonal and daily operations of the Ski Patrol department so that each customer’s experience is reasonably safe, positive and personalized.  This includes, but is not limited to, providing input and assistance in coordinating daily routines, training, and coaching of Patrollers; being a leader and setting the example for company teamwork; effective communication with employees and other company personnel.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The Ski Patrol Supervisor responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Be an effective team leader within the guidelines of department and company policies, procedures and values, in fulfillment of Monarch’s mission statement to “provide our guests with a quality, personalized mountain experience.”
  • Work in conjunction with other employees and departments as part of the Monarch team.
  • Assist in the organization and scheduling of departmental staff.  Cover positions as necessary.
  • Assist in the initial and ongoing training and coaching of departmental staff.
  • Assist in identifying, researching and submitting departmental capital requests for fiscal review.
  • Provide timely employee feedback and conduct qualitative performance reviews of department staff on a regular basis. 
  • Coordinate daily work projects and training with patrollers and ensure they are completed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with the Team Lead positions for oversight of the Patrol Teams and additional training opportunities. 
  • Assist in communication and coordination between frontline staff and management. Assist with the Continuing Quality Improvement Program (CQI).
  • Contribute to the maintenance of training materials, manuals, checklists and other documents necessary for the success of the department.
  • Prepare and assist in the oversight of department personnel in the event of an emergency, as instructed by your supervisor.
  • Provide assistance and appropriate first aid to sick/injured guests; manage their evacuation and transportation as necessary.
  • Perform avalanche reduction duties to include completion of appropriate documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate Local, State, Federal and USFS regulatory records.
  • Assist in, and take the lead as directed, in accident investigations.
  • Participate in search and rescue operations when necessary.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely on the mountain radio system in accordance with Monarch policies and procedures and FCC rules and regulations.
  • Perform lift evacuations when necessary.
  • Perform the duties and responsibilities of a Ski Patroller-Level 3 whenever necessary.
  • Provide courteous assistance in problem solving for both guests and employees, escalating as necessary.  
  • Attend off-site conferences, workshops, exchanges or training programs as requested.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Must be an expert skier or snowboarder.
  • Ability to maintain a good attitude and work well with guests and other employees.
  • Proficient reading and legible writing skills in the English language.
  • Ability to speak clearly and pleasantly and communicate in the English language.
  • Ability to train others in a non-condescending manner.
  • Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials and situations.
  • Aware of surroundings and the ability to identify and respond quickly to situational needs.
  • Proficient computer and website navigation skills including Microsoft Office, SmartMountain and Survey 123, Adobe PhotoShop, and SkiMonarch.com.
  • Ability to take direction and follow procedures.
  • Must be adept in avalanche control and rescue.
  • Must be available by phone when off-duty.
  • Must be professional, punctual and highly reliable.

                                                    

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum Age: 21
  • Legal citizen of the United States or possess other proper work permit authentication.
  • A valid Driver’s License, and a good, company insurable driving record.
  • High School Diploma or GED required, college degree preferred. 
  • Ski/ride at an advanced level.
  • Current certification in EMT or OEC and CPR required.
  • Minimum three seasons of Ski Patrol experience preferred.
  • Avalanche I and Avalanche II/Pro 1 certification required.
  • Experience as an Avalanche Control Route Leader at Monarch or similar area required.
  • Type I Explosives Permit or the ability to obtain an explosive permit with the state of Colorado required.
  • Requires the ability to work any day of the week, Saturday through Friday and holidays, and overtime, if necessary, as agreed upon with your superior.
  • Must be able to load and unload a chair lift, and stop, turn, kick-turn, change directions suddenly, adapt to uneven, varying terrain, and move in all directions on skis or snowboard carrying up to 90 lbs. of varying shapes and sizes.
  • Must be able to ski a loaded toboggan on all terrain and in all conditions.
  • Requires stretching, bending, squatting, reaching, grasping, and routinely lifting moderate to heavy (90 lbs) loads.
  • Requires good balance, standing and walking on uneven, slippery surfaces, pushing and pulling up to 90 lbs., and shoveling snow.
  • Requires driving or riding a snowmobile.
  • Requires sitting and working at a computer for short periods of time.
  • Possible exposure to bio-hazards (see JHAs).
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Requires working at high elevation (up to 12,000’), with extended exposure to adverse weather conditions, such as severe cold, heavy snowfall, rain, strong winds and intense sun.
