Sign, Pads, and Fences Specialist

Appointment Type: Seasonal Full Time

Overview:

This is a non-supervisory position that will provide on-mountain training and instruction in the use and implementation of mountain signs, rope lines, pads, and fencing. On-mountain signs include trail maps, trail signs, warning, and instructional signs. This position is responsible for the maintenance, building and ordering of all signs, rope lines, pads, and fencing. This position will be responsible for the implementation of a safety patrol program. The Sign Specialist reports directly to the Director of Patrol, Ski Patrol Manager, Ski Patrol Supervisor, Avalanche Mitigation Manager, and Avalanche Mitigation Supervisor. This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Solitude Ski Patrol Union.

Key requirements:

• Must be employed as a Solitude Mountain Patroller
• Risk Management skills in relation to on-hill hazards and markings
• Risk management skills in relation to high traffic/high hazard areas and safety patrol responsibilities 
• Excellent communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Thorough knowledge of Solitude terrain, guest traffic patterns, and high traffic/hazard areas
• Knowledge of industry best practices in relation to mountain signs, rope lines, padding, and fencing
• Ability to collaborate with other resort departments such as Lifts, Terrain Parks, Marketing, Ski School
• Ski Patrol Level 1 or above

Duties:

• Oversee risk management training in hazard marking skills
• Develop and oversee safety patrol duties. These duties may include speed control, reckless riders and warnings
• Oversee consistent implementation of ropes, signs, pads, and markings on the mountain
• Maintain an up-to-date inventory log of signs, bamboo, marking rope, pads, and fencing
• The ability to research and prepare orders of tools, signs, lumber, paint, hardware, bamboo, marking rope, pads, and fencing
• The ability and skills to properly repair, build, and mount all mountain signs
• The ability to organize and keep top duty stations, patrol storage and work areas clean
• The ability to inventory and maintain proper tools needed
