JOB DETAILS:

SUMMARY:

Provide a quality learning experience for students of all abilities to learn to snowboard and safely enjoy the mountain environment.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:

  • Maintain a high high-level customer service to enhance the overall guest experience.
  • Teach lessons in a positive, safe, fun, and professional manner.
  • Demonstrate contemporary and appropriate snowboarding skills to children and adults.
  • Convey knowledge of AASI methodology and technology to students, understanding the general concepts of the Learning Connection to a depth applicable to teaching/ certification level.
  • Assist in resolving guest concerns or escalate to Supervisors or Managers as needed.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with parents, children, supervisors, and coworkers.
  • Provide area and community  information to guests.
  • Accurately maintain timely and legible documentation for teaching hours, attendance cards, progress cards, incident and risk management information and other documentation as directed by management.
  • Attend required meetings and training seminars.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow employees and independently with groups of students.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly personal space in the locker room.

SUPERVISION:

  • Supervision Given:  This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
  • Supervision Received:  Works under the supervision of the Snowsports coordinators and supervisors.  Receive assignments as directed, with clear expectations, available guidance, and periodic performance reviews as needed or during check-ins.

QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIREMENTS, AND ADDITIONAL INFO:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience in snowboard instruction, daycare, camp counseling, teaching, childcare or equivalent.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to communicate clear instructions and safety information to students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified AASI status.
  • Level II snowboarding ability.  The ability to snowboard from assigned stations to the base area while demonstrating maneuvers to students throughout the duration of a lesson for up to 6 hours per day.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Outdoor: Regularly working in quickly changing winter weather conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements. May be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces.
  • Work physically near others throughout the shift.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time.  
  • May require bending, stooping, standing, walking, and moving items that weigh up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, communicate effectively with coworkers and visitors, handle stressful situations and upset customers, and completing tasks independently and efficiently.
  • Instructors need to be adaptable with their teaching methods to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of individual students, demonstrating patience and understanding when working with varying skill levels.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check. 
  • Successful candidates must have the ability to understand and communicate in English with adequate proficiency to follow directions from supervisor, read and understand safety guidelines and directions to prevent accidents or injuries from occurring, and effectively communicate with visitors and staff.
