Job Summary:

The tax intern will assist the tax manager to accomplish his daily responsibilities and be involved with preparation & filing of miscellaneous, taxes, license & fees renewal.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • The tax intern will also assist the tax manager with specific areas of tax such as listed below:
  • Assist in workpaper & return preparation for corporate income tax, sales & use tax, and miscellaneous taxes
  • Research and draft memos on various tax issues facing the company
  • Perform tax payment account reconciliation and update account balance with state & local governments
  • Compile license & tax registration information, apply for new registration and update/renew existing registration
  • Document sales & use tax certificates and rates via research, perform limited scope sales tax audit under supervisor guidance

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to learn and work under limited supervision is a must
  • Able to adapt in challenging fast paced learning environment
  • Demonstrate professional appearance and attitude

LEARNING OBJECTIVE

  • Gain basic understanding of various types of tax and be able to discuss reasoning behind tax policies via critical thinking and analysis
  • Reconcile various accounting entries by examining all available supporting financial documents and excel spreadsheets
  • Improve on general research skills by reading tax codes and instructions
  • Be proficient in basic memo writing tasks using Microsoft Word
  • Exposed to limited or basic audit experience by participating sales & use tax audits
