JOB SUMMARY

Nantahala Outdoor Center is a leading outdoor adventure organization in the southeast with seven locations in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. Dedicated to providing exceptional outdoor experiences to it’s guests, The NOC also strives to deliver the highest standards of service to our guests while providing quality equipment and resources. In the interest of providing the best resources and equipment that we can, we are seeking a skilled vehicle mechanic to join our team of fleet vehicle mechanics. In this position, you will work as a team to keep NOC’s fleet of buses, vans, trucks, trailers, and cars safe, reliable, and properly maintained to ensure the best performance possible. Most days will be spent working in the garage where you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining gasoline and diesel vehicles contributing to the safe and efficient operations of our business. In addition, when necessary, our fleet mechanics may be dispatched to road calls or to visit our other operations to troubleshoot vehicle issues.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and filter replacements.
  • Conduct thorough inspection tasks on our full fleet of light, medium and heavy-duty gas & diesel vehicles and trailers
  • Repair and replace faulty parts, including but not limited to engines, transmissions, suspension, brakes and electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Use specialized tools and equipment to complete repairs and adjustments accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and maximize vehicle lifespan.
  • Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used and services.
  • Perform service calls to diagnose and perform repairs at or near any of our locations.
  • Occasional fabrication of trailers, roof top decks for rafts, etc.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure fleet readiness and safety compliance.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory requirements.


Qualifications

  • 2+ years vehicle shop experience or similar role.
  • Own a set of basic vehicle mechanic’s tools 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment effectively
  • Comfortable working in a team environment to diagnose and collaborate on solutions 
  • Ability to work independently 
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including a rotation of weekends and holidays during peak season operations. 
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory standards related to vehicle maintenance
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Physical strength and stamina to handle heavy equipment and perform manual tasks.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs 
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time 
  • Must have full mobility and be able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time.
