JOB SUMMARY

Nantahala Outdoor Center is a leading Outdoor Adventure Organization in the Southeast with seven locations in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. Dedicated to providing exceptional outdoor experiences to it’s guests, The NOC also strives to deliver the highest standards of service to our guests while providing quality equipment and resources. In the interest of providing the best resources and equipment that we can, we are seeking a skilled vehicle mechanic to join our team of fleet vehicle mechanics. In this position, you will work as a team to keep NOC’s fleet of buses, vans, trucks, trailers, and cars safe, reliable, and properly maintained to ensure the best performance possible. Most days will be spent working in the garage where you will be responsible for maintaining gasoline and diesel vehicles contributing to the safe and efficient operations of our business. In addition, when necessary, our fleet mechanics may be dispatched to road calls or to visit our other operations to troubleshoot vehicle issues.


Responsibilities

  • Apply lubricants to the moving parts of vehicle engines to prevent premature engine wear and ensure optimal engine performance.
  • Lubricate wheel bearings to prevent excessive tire wear.
  • Perform oil changes in fleet vehicles.
  • Replacing cabin, fuel, air, and oil filters as required.
  • Perform tire rotations to ensure even tire wear.
  • Inspect tires and add air as needed.
  • Thoroughly inspect fleet vehicles for oil and fluid leaks.
  • Make recommendations for additional servicing based on initial vehicle inspections.
  • Complete work orders and maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used and services.
  • Assist on service calls to diagnose and perform repairs at or near any of our locations.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure fleet readiness and safety compliance.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Complete other tasks related to the servicing of our clients’ vehicles.

 

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Formal automotive maintenance training is preferred.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of automotive tools and techniques.
  • Own a set of basic vehicle mechanic’s tools. 
  • Ability to use tools and equipment effectively.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work well in both team settings and individually.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in a team environment. 
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including a rotation of weekends and holidays during peak season operations. 
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory standards related to vehicle maintenance.
  • Physical strength and stamina to handle heavy equipment and perform manual tasks.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs. 
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. 
  • Must have full mobility and be able to work with hands above head for extended periods of time.
