The successful candidate will work on multiple concurrent projects in the Marine Resource Division's Office of Fisheries Management and provide support for effective management of blue crab and horseshoe crab resources. The successful candidate will work independently under general supervision but must be able to work effectively as a member of a team to design and implement sampling programs. Job duties will include coordinating and conducting biological sampling in the commercial blue crab and horseshoe crab fisheries as well as conducting compliance inspections in the soft-shell crab and horseshoe crab fisheries. The successful candidate will lead the creation of databases and ensure that data are accurately collected and stored, and findings are effectively synthesized and reported. Duties will involve extensive engagement with SC constituents and require effective communication with participants in commercial and recreational fisheries. The successful candidate will participate in various field-based activities across multiple projects within the Division using a variety of gear configurations. Work schedules may require irregular hours and work on weekends and/or holidays.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects as well as strong verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of applicable research and a thorough understanding of the ecology and life history of blue crabs and horseshoe crabs. Ability to coordinate program and sampling schedules and effectively synthesize and present results. Good communication, organizational, and time management skills. Self-motivation, curiosity, analytical skills, problem solving abilities and a strong work ethic. Proficiency with common computer software programs, laboratory and field equipment preferred. Experience with GIS mapping software and relational databases preferred. Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions and lift heavy objects. Valid driver's license and good driving record.
