Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area — Boise National Forest, ID | Seasonal | Part-Time (Weekends)

The Winter Snowshoe Tour Guide will lead nature-based, guided outings and programs at Bogus Basin on Saturdays and Sundays. Working with the Environmental Education Coordinator, this position will share knowledge of winter ecology, recreation and Bogus Basin as they tour the snowshoe trails around the Frontier Point Lodge. The Weekend Snowshoe Tour Guide will also work with local experts on select outings throughout the winter giving opportunity for themed programs. Through these tours and programs we hope to foster curiosity in participants of the natural world.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Winter Snowshoe Tour Guide, you’ll create meaningful guest experiences by leading educational tours, connecting participants to the natural world, increasing accessibility in winter recreation, and supporting Bogus Basin’s nonprofit mission. You’ll also collaborate with supervisors and local experts to offer themed programs and ensure tours are engaging, safe, and memorable.


A Day in the Life

On a typical weekend day, you’ll prepare equipment, welcome guests and share about your offerings, meet and greet participants, and lead groups of 1–15 individuals on guided snowshoe tours. Along the trails, you’ll share your knowledge of winter ecology, Bogus Basin, and winter recreation while adjusting routes to meet group needs. Some days, you’ll coordinate with local naturalists to deliver themed outings. After tours, you’ll support Nordic lodge operations, maintain professional communication with staff and patrons, and contribute to the overall success of the program.


Essential Functions of the Job

  • Work independently and with supervisor to thoughtfully plan and organize tours with relevant talking points and group-appropriate routes.
  • Lead and engage groups of adults and youth in a winter environment (1–15 individuals) while on snowshoes.
  • Talk on the trail and spend the day outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Create a safe and fun learning environment.
  • Communicate with industry experts before “guest speaker” tours.
  • Maintain a professional attitude toward all patrons, staff, supervisors, and other departments.
  • Perform other duties as required


Requirements

What You Bring to Bogus Basin

  • Passionate about Bogus Basin’s mission
  • Strong knowledge (or willingness to learn) of Bogus Basin’s ecology, hydrology, geology, snow science, history, recreation, etc.
  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to work with people of all ages.
  • Strong interest in nature education.
  • Reliable, flexible, creative, enthusiastic, and able to adapt mid-tour as needed.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks accurately and on time.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to perform essential duties efficiently and safely, with or without supervision.
  • Ability to stand, balance, walk, stoop, crouch, kneel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to snowshoe on uneven, steep terrain in deep snow for distances up to 3 miles while carrying up to 15 lbs.
  • Ability to navigate mountainous terrain with or without GPS or maps.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Working Conditions

  •  Outdoor environment; exposed to inclement winter weather and adverse conditions
  •  Working with groups of mixed-age individuals daily
  •  Typically works 4-8 hours, 3-8 days a month throughout the winter season.
