SummerKids Day Camp Staff
Location:
Pine Ridge Elementary, Bend, OR Status: Summer Seasonal, 35-40 hours/week
- Schedule: SummerKids 2026 is a 10 week long program. There are two 3 week sessions and one 4 week session. You can apply for 1, 2 or all 3 sessions based on your preference and availability. Exact hours will vary week to week but will be Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:15 am and 5:30 pm.
Session 1: June 15th - July 2nd Session 2: July 6th - July 31st Session 3: August 3rd - Aug 21st Mandatory Staff Training: June 14th - 16th Optional 11th week, August 24th - 28th at Tumalo Day Camp (not required or guaranteed).

Program Overview:
SummerKids is a weekly theme-based day camp for youth in 1st through 6th grade. The camp will be hosted at Pine Ridge Elementary and can have 100+ registered youth each week, separated into individual groups of 8-12 kids of a similar age. The camp runs from 9 am-3:30 pm, with extended care options beginning as early as 7:30 am and ending by 5:30 pm.
All staff at SummerKids are invaluable members of our team who are role models, motivators, team builders, educators, and spark champions. They facilitate a safe, fun, and confidence-building summer for all our campers. As part of a dynamic team, they will implement planned curricula, contribute ideas, and help to ensure a memorable camp experience for the campers, their families, and the other Camp Fire staff in the SummerKids community. We strive to create an environment where each camper and staff member has a sense of belonging, opportunities to share passions, and a place to thrive.
Position Overview:
Each week of camp, staff are assigned a group of 8-12 campers aged 6-12 years old. Staff will build community within their group, lead games and activities, and manage the physical and emotional safety of their group. There will be weekly planning sessions for creating and facilitating "Spark Clubs" and occasionally assisting with organizing camp-wide activities, such as spirit days.
We hire a set number of staff to accommodate the largest number of groups possible during SummerKids. When registration does not accommodate the full team, the Camp Director will elect a staff member to become Spark Staff for that week. As Spark Staff, you can expect part-time hours and diverse leadership growth opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create a sense of belonging for all youth through daily age-appropriate icebreaker activities, team challenges, games, and reflections
- Plan weekly schedule and activities based on provided curriculum
- Collaborate with other counselors and staff in creating and implementing spark club, games, and activities
- Manage consistent daily communication with SummerKids Site Lead
Work collaboratively to maintain a clean space for campers and staff
- Communicate scheduling conflicts at least 2 weeks in advance
Arrive to camp on-time and ready to positively engage campers Sustain a growth mindset about receiving and incorporating feedback given by Leadership Staff Set and reflect on professional goals throughout the summer with Leadership staff
- Manage a safe physical and emotional space for youth
Attend weekly post-camp Tuesday afternoon Professional Development sessions One week of spark staff responsibilities Periodic AM or PM extended care shifts
Required Skills & Qualifications:

First Aid/CPR certified (or ability to get certified by start date or soon after) Applicant must have graduated high school by June 2026
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
Experience working directly with elementary-aged youth:
Some higher education, classwork, training, or experience in the youth development field or other related fields
- Training and experience with best practices in teaching, group management, planning and designing activities, social-emotional learning, and trauma-informed care for elementary youth
Transferable Skills:

Compensation: $19-$21 per hour, depending on experience. Eligible for up to $200 end-of-summer bonus.
