Summer Camp Counselor - Imagination Station

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Early Childhood Services and/or Camp Director, the Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for planning, preparing, and participating in camp activities. Camp hours will vary from 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday. The position runs for 9 weeks, in addition to training days scheduled prior to the start of camp. Camp Counselors will work with children ranging in age from 4-7 years, in groups of 5-30 campers. Activities include, but are not limited to, completing crafts, doing scientific experiments and table activities, playing group games and other outdoor activities, exploring nature and much more. Counselors are expected to interact with campers throughout their entire shift, lead and/or assist with activities, be a team-player, and ensure campers are always safe. Additional duties include behavior management, set-up/clean-up of the camp location, craft/activity prep and other duties as assigned. This is an at-will position.

PLEASE NOTE: Expectation is that you will be available for the entire 9-week program with a limit of one week of absence for a scheduled family vacation or similar that should be discussed at time of hire. Various shift options are available and can be discussed during the interview process.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to run, play games and engage in physical activities that may require quick movements and agility. Comfortable sitting, standing, walking, and/or being on your feet for extended periods. Capable of lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, such as equipment, supplies, or backpacks. Capable of assisting campers with basic physical needs, such as applying sunscreen, tying shoes, etc.
Strong voice and listening skills with the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds. Must have adequate sight to observe participants and identify potential hazards. Able to maintain attention, high level of energy or excitement for extended periods of time. Ability to spend majority of the time outdoors and tolerate a variety of weather conditions including high heat and humidity.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING:
The ideal candidate will be outgoing, reliable, self-motivated, and creative with a strong interest in working with children. Must be 16 years of age or older. Prior experience working with children of multiple ages is recommended. Previous camp or similar experience is a plus. Preference given to candidates working towards a degree in education, recreation, or similar field.
Ability to effectively communicate with participants, their parents, and the public. Ability to maintain discretion regarding confidential matters and/or information. Proficient in MS Outlook or other email system for communication with the aptitude to learn and use other applications. CPR/AED/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified within 30 days of hire. (We will provide)
Reliable transportation to and from work is required.
