POSITION DETAILS

Job Title: Lead Day Camp Counselor

Location: District-wide • Edwards Field House (Edwards, CO), Eagle Pool & Ice Rink (Eagle, CO), Gypsum Recreation Center (Gypsum, CO)

Schedule: Part-Time; Seasonal; Season: April – October

Work Environment: Works indoors and outdoors at one of the Mountain Recreation facilities (Eagle Pool & Ice Rink, Edwards Field House, and/or Gypsum Recreation Center). Work hours and days may vary. Position may require long periods of standing or sitting. Position requires off-site work on special non-camp days to field trip locations in Eagle County and across Colorado.


Supervision Required: Works under the direct supervision of the Day Camps & Active Older Adults Coordinator and Day Camps & Active Older Adults Supervisor

Supervision Exercised: None


Salary: $20.47-$25.59/hour DOE; staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual and can pass the language competency test.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

General Statement of Duties: Oversee the safety and well-being of children participating in Summer Day Camp Program. Participate and direct recreational activities for children. 


Examples of Duties:

  • Ensures the safety of the children while in our care. 
  • Supervises youth in district facilities and programs, helping to provide safe, rewarding experiences. 
  • Interacts with youth through developmentally appropriate crafts, games and/or other planned activities. 
  • Assists in planning and preparing necessary materials for camp activities. 
  • Instructs specific activities within established guidelines and curriculum. 
  • Communicates effectively with the public including providing accurate information related to work assignments. 
  • Sets up and breaks down equipment and facilities. 
  • Maintains the cleanliness of facilities and equipment. 
  • Responds to accidents and incidents according to procedures. 
  • Reports incidents of child Abuse or neglect observed or reported by a child. 
  • Responsible for direct supervision of children enrolled in program. 
  • Conducts sign-in & sign out procedures. 
  • Provide exceptional customer service. 
  • Attends staff meetings and training sessions as necessary. 
  • Follows Colorado State School-aged licensing policies. 
  • Uphold a high standard of quality Day Camp Programming and Supervision. 
  • Report any problems with equipment or toys to supervisor. 
  • Discipline children in an appropriate manner when necessary. 
  • Ability to answer questions regarding childcare and Day Camp policies and procedures.      
  • Ensure safety of patrons in the facility and assist in emergency situations. 
  • Provides first aid care when needed. 
  • Inform supervisor of any known situation that may be hazardous to patrons or staff. 
  • Performs light maintenance duties such as picking up toys, craft supplies, sweeping/mopping floors, wiping down counters. Ensure cleanliness and orderliness of camp area. 
  • Complete special projects and assist in other areas as needed. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

  

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable knowledge of: Behavior management; childhood development and incorporate appropriate crafts, games, and activities; effective teaching techniques; safety and sanitation guidelines.


 Skills and abilities: 

  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Customer service skills
  • General knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while paying attention to detail.

Requirements:

Education and experience

  • Must be at least 18 years in age, AND
  • Must have at least three (3) months (460 hours) of full-time or equivalent part-time satisfactory and verifiable experience with school-age children.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Certifications

  • Must have current CPR Certification
