Description

The Hermitage Club at Haystack Mountain, a premier private ski resort, is seeking passionate and dedicated Ski Instructors to join our Snow Sports team. In this role, you will share your love for skiing and snowboarding with members and guests, fostering a positive, safe, and enjoyable learning environment. Whether you're new to teaching or an experienced instructor, we provide comprehensive training to ensure your success. Positions are available for both private lessons and seasonal development programs, with competitive pay reflecting your growth and professional certification.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide Customer-Centered Instruction
    • Deliver engaging and supportive lessons to skiers and snowboarders of all levels, ensuring their experience is positive and enjoyable.
    • Personalize instruction to meet individual student needs, building rapport and enhancing satisfaction.
  2. Communicate Effectively
    • Use clear language and physical demonstrations to teach techniques, ensuring students understand and can apply the guidance.
    • Adjust communication styles based on student age, skill level, and comprehension.
  3. Foster a Positive Learning Environment
    • Exhibit patience and encouragement, offering constructive feedback to boost confidence and skill development, particularly for students who struggle.
    • Inspire and motivate students to achieve their personal goals by creating an uplifting and supportive environment.
  4. Ensure Safety and Risk Management
    • Maintain a strong focus on safety, consistently following and teaching proper skiing techniques and safety protocols, including mandatory helmet use.
    • Assess and address any risks, ensuring a secure environment for all students.
  5. Adaptability in Lesson Delivery
    • Modify teaching methods and lesson plans based on varying student progress, skill levels, weather conditions, and terrain challenges to keep instruction effective.
    • Respond swiftly to any student or environmental challenges, using problem-solving skills to maintain the lesson flow.
  6. Assist with Daily Operations
    • Support Snow Sports team operations including lesson registration, hill setup and breakdown, equipment rental assistance, and providing accurate information about member services.
    • Help students with chair lift loading and unloading, ensuring smooth transitions during lessons.
  7. Collaborate with Team Members
    • Work well with other instructors and resort staff, coordinating efforts to ensure smooth operations and enhance the overall guest experience.
    • Assist with on-snow activities, including childcare for young students and ensuring children are safely returned to their guardians after lessons.
  8. Exhibit Professionalism
    • Represent The Hermitage Club positively, maintaining a professional demeanor in appearance, behavior, and communication at all times.

Uphold the high standards of the Snow Sports instructional program, contributing to a cohesive team dynamic.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Age: 16 years old at the time of hire.
  • Background Check: Must pass a background check and be comfortable working with children.
  • Language Skills: Fluent in English (verbal and written).
  • Communication: Effective communication skills with individuals, groups, and colleagues.
  • Team Player: Demonstrated teamwork and willingness to assist others.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts.
  • Skiing/Snowboarding Skills: Proficient in skiing or snowboarding, able to make parallel or linked turns on intermediate terrain, and willing to pass a skill assessment.
  • Safety Compliance: Must adhere to all safety policies, including mandatory helmet use.
  • Training: Completion of a four-day on-snow training program.
  • Preferred Experience: Previous experience in teaching, coaching, or instruction is a plus.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Ability to sit, stand, kneel, walk, and ski/snowboard for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, including cold, snow, and wind, in a winter alpine environment.
